Becuase if we do, we're fucked... The south is never going to vote democratic.. The republicans have the south locked up completely!

Does anyone have any figures and or strategies to win without the South?

1. No South = No White House
North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Texas have 140 electoral votes between them. That's HALF of the total required to win!

In fact, I have to point out that the last Democrat to win the Presidency who WASN'T southern was John F Kennedy. Every Democratic President since...including Al Gore...hailed from a southern state. Every Democratic candidate from a northern or western state lost by wide margins.

3. We need a 2 or 3 southern states to win
Louisiana and Arkansas can possibly swing to our column if we work hard. Georgia and Florida are more of long shots, but they should be in our strategy.

Although it would be nice to pick up some Southern States, it is not essential to win the White House. Kerry would have won the White House with all the states he had if he had just carried Ohio (which he did--don't let Blackwell and Diebold fool you). The Southern States, although they look bigger on a map, have roughly the same amount of EV's that the NE has, so it all evens out.
