"Laura Bush... says Hurricane Katrina could have a silver lining"

http://kutv.com/topstories/local_story_263145014.html

A Sit Down With Laura Bush

Laura Bush, former inner-city teacher, says Hurricane Katrina could have a silver lining if it forces the nation to respond ``in a different way'' to inner-city poverty and racial problems.

``A large percentage of our population probably doesn't realize what inner cities are really like and has looked away from that,'' Bush told The Associated Press in an interview Tuesday.

The first lady sat down in the White House's Map Room to promote this weekend's National Book Festival, a daylong event on the National Mall that she has put on in concert with the Library of Congress for five years _ a tradition she started as first lady of Texas.

...

Then, in a wifely endorsement, she said, ``Fortunately he is really strong and so I'm confident that he'll be able to sustain the level of attention that he'll have to _ and not just to that, also to the war in Iraq, to foreign policy and to all the other issues that are on the desk of the president of the United States.''

5. Laura taught...
She taught in public schools in Dallas and Houston.

I taught in Houston, and some of the schools are pretty rough. In fact, I quit after teaching in Houston. Tired of worrying about physical harm much of the time.

20. Are you saying she
didn't teach in Dallas or Houston? Or are you adding that tidbit?

I took that off her biography website.

7. respond to poverty and racial problems in a different way
what the hell is she talking about? They have completely ignoring the existence of poverty and racial problems before they started showing up on the top of flooded houses. What are they planning to do shoot them? That seems to be their response in Iraq.

10. As if knowing about poverty is enough
Maybe a large percentage of the rich in this country don't "realize what inner cities are really like" but belive me, plenty of people living there do.

16. I think Laura Bush is a Dem at heart
and would be in fact if she wasn't part of that family.

Unfortunately, she wasn't able to sway her thug cheat of a husband in the slightest to be any other way. Bush kind of hard-right people simply don't listen to a word that anyone else says. Those with Republicans in the family know Laura's story.

Of course, maybe she has changed him somewhat and he'd be even worse without her influence. Hard to imagine but possible.

21. hard to believe
I couldn't imagane even agreeing to go on a date with that husband of hers. Her standing by him for so long means she believes in what he does... or she's been drugged all this time. If she were a Democrat, she would have exposed him years ago!

Go consult your interior designers and stop trying to stump for your useless husband, Pickles!

23. The silver lining for the Bushies is the taxpayer's gold that
they can hand over to their friends! As for the poor being exposed, don't worry Bushie will divert attention to some bullshit sidelight soon such as a 10 commandment statue that gets taken down.

I've been poor most of my life, fuck her and the limo that drove her to the interview! Silver lining? Tell that to the families who lost loved ones to Katrina. What a total bitch! No wonder Boosh married her - she reminded him of mommy "Babs" dearest.
