Jack Cafferty wants emails in response to this evenings' question:
Before reading the question, Jack sighed, looked into the camera and said, "I can't make this stuff up."

"Is the president's homeland security advisor the right one to investigate what went wrong with the Katrina response."

3. I sent mine too.
I said: "It will be a complete waste of money to allow this sham of an investigation to go forward. How can you investigate yourself properly when it might endanger your livelihood? Good grief! How stupid does our President think we are?"

It depends.......on who needs to pass the 'smell test.' Of course, if we're
still "blame gaming" and want to make sure Nagin and Blanco stink up the
place, then yes. If we want the truth? No.

6. Here's what I just sent him:
Are you kidding?

Is another fox the right creature to check up on the screw-ups in another hen house? How 'bout a jackal? Or maybe a vulture? Or a nice mold culture that feeds on dead tissue - or maybe a well-connected opportunistic infection?

Haven't we seen enough by now to know that the people this guy wants to appoint to various government jobs are almost without exception UNFIT for their targeted promotions? So now he wants to select another one for us?

Great. Just great. I can't wait. In fact, I can predict what the outcome is going to be because of this: another whitewash.

NO. Homeland Security BOTCHED this one, BIGTIME. Why should one of theirs be assigned to look into "what went wrong?"

Thanks much - PLEASE, Jack, KEEP HOLDING THIS HORRIBLE MIS-leader ACCOUNTABLE!!!

8. Just sent mine too
Here's what I wrote:

NO, NO, NO!! It's unbelievable that they would assign the person who is one of the most (if not THE most) responsible for the mistakes that were made during this fiasco as the person to investigate what went wrong! It's beyond my comprehension! How does the Bush administration continue getting away with this sort of thing, catastrophe after catastrophe, war after war, year after year? Their arrogance is beyond stunning.

9. Here's what I sent
Jack, asking this is like asking what color is "up" -- the question has no meaning because what you or I think has no bearing whatsoever on what the Bush administration will do. They have become as brazen as a hooker in the city formerly known as New Orleans. They WILL investigate themselves, they WILL exonerate themselves, and Wolf Blitzer WILL rave about what a fair investigation they did.

This isn't a question -- it's a punchline. And the joke's on us.

10. Done -- my response:
Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 04:38 PM by mcscajun
"Assigning a Bush administration insider to investigate what went wrong with the Katrina response is absolutely the wrong answer. A completely independent investigation is the only way to get the answers the American public requires about the shameful, indifferent, inadequate and delayed response by President Bush (and by extension, his Administration and his appointees) to the Hurricane Katrina disaster."

11. Mine
"In response to a completely worthless question .............

my answer is an eternally loud and roaring "NO!"

If the President's homeland security chief is to be in
charge of investigating what went wrong, I say it's
now time to let the defendants in criminal cases
handle their investigations, as well.

Who would even consider such an inane idea?

Oh, sorry. That last question was sort of joke, too."

14. Here's mine
Mr. Cafferty, this disaster is the "Titanic" of our generation, the precedent set here will be discussed long after we are gone. We must have an impartial investigation into this. Surely, the loss of a major U.S. city coupled with the tragic loss of so many of our
American citizens demands no less. If FEMA was placed under the jurisdiction of Homeland Security and was supervised by Homeland Security and the Whitehouse during this disaster then surely what you are proposing must be biased and be open to charges of "bias" - "partisianship" - "cronyism."

It is clear that many of the victims died not from the huricane itself but from neglect, from the 154 patients that were not evacuated to the nursing home elderly. What is especially shocking to me was the refusal of letting a doctor administer insulin which resulted in death. From every angle there has been incompetence bordering on criminal negligence. Since 9-11, George W. Bush has been given carte blanche, powers that many president would only dream of but there can not be a "free pass" here. Americans have died in a humiliating and painful way, we owe it to our dead to conduct an investigation that will be able to answer the questions that the world will ask of us.
