While Democrats have also expressed concern about the budget deficit, they favor scrapping the proposed $70 billion in tax cuts planned as part of the budget agreement — and rolling back some of the cuts already made for the wealthiest Americans.

On Tuesday, after meeting with African-American clergy, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., held a joint press conference in which they chastised the budget as “immoral” and said that going ahead with the $35 billion in mandatory savings, including $10 billion from Medicaid spending, would harm those most in need.

“It doesn’t surprise me that Ms. Pelosi doesn’t understand that, because she wants tax hikes and everything else she can do to attack the economy,” Delay said.
