Sen. Dole is against an independent Katrina investigation!
I called Sen. Dole's DC office today and asked the very nice young lady if Sen. Dole was supporting an independent investigation into what happened with Hurricane Katrina. This is the SHOCKING conversation that I had:

Chipper Phone Answerer: Um, yes. Yes, she is supporting that.

Me: Is she supporting an independent investigation or the Republican-sponsored one?

CPA: Um, oh. The Republican one.

Me: You're telling me that she is not supporting an independent investigation?

CPA: Um, well. Um, no.

Me: Can you explain to me why she is not supporting an independent investigation?

CPA: No but I can transfer you to someone who can if you'd like.

Me: That would be great, thanks.

Well, the dude she transferred me to wasn't there so I had to leave a message on his voice mail. I made sure to say how outraged I was, etc., etc.

He has not called me back.

I am SHOCKED, SHOCKED. :sarcasm:

All this was followed up by a call to Sen. Burr's office where I had the same freaking conversation.

Then I called Sen. Reid's office to tell him that he had better not cave to the repubs on this one. I told the CPA there that "Sen. Reid can go to Democratic Underground, Democrats.com, Progressive Dems of America, Moveon.org and many other sites and read exactly how Democrats feel about a repub investigation."

I finished it by saying, "If he stands tall and doesn't cave, then we have his back."

Tomorrow, it will be time to call Kennedy, Kerry, Clinton and whomever else I can think of to call.

5. If they ever run a woman for president, the repubs will run Dole
She is Jessie Helms in a skirt, as another poster so rightly put it. She toes the line. If she could service *, I'm betting that she would.

20. DEFINITELY NOT Jesse in a skirt!
Say what you want about the old SOB, but he had strong convictions and stuck to 'em - an ideologue through and through. Liddy is a bootlicker, nothing else. She toes the R line and does what she's told, period. Beyond toadying to those in power (of her own party), she has no strong convictions that I've been able to identify.

As she once said as a member of Raygun's cabinet (Labor, IIRC), "The President doesn't want yes-men. When he says 'no' we all say 'no'."

7. What have you got against Bolivia?
That's a cruel thing to do to those innocent people. :-)

10. How about a post in Iraq?
I'd like to see her sent there since she thinks the war is so great.

Save your eneregy. It would be better spent finding (use advanced search) my post from last week.

Senator Clinton filed a Senate resolution calling for an investigation. It was defeated by STRAIGHT PARTY LINE VOTE.

Sorry I cannot provide a link, advanced search is down.

But search on my name, key word "clinton" forum = politics.

Then send that post to everyone on your mail lists.

4. According to the dude at Reid's office, Reid is still fighting for it
He is working to get the independent investigation back on the table. He is asking for money to be appropriated. It sounds as though Reid isn't going to let it go.

I understand what you are saying, PITA, but I have to do something. It's like with election reform. I don't know how many times I called and called and called. If enough folks do it, then maybe something will change.

I can't sit and do nothing. I just can't.

16. I wasn't suggestion you do nothing.
Suggested you find the details in my post, or go to the clerk of the Senate's website and get the same info there.

It was not reported by the corp media at all, and needs to get out there.

3. I've rarely seen a more empty, vacuous twit
in high office than Liddy Dole. It bugs the hell out of me that Bowles couldn't whup her animatronic ass.

6. She has no soul
What was really pathetic is when she trotted out her 90-something-year-old mother out to make campaign ads for her. That was just plain disgusting.

8. No brains, either
A mere cough in the audience will invariably cause her to interrupt her speechifying to do her "AHAHAHAHA, THANKYEW thankyew, y'all are SOOO GOOD, AHAHAHA" thing. I've seen her spend the bulk of meets 'n greets doing little more than that.

I've heard her speak and I want to vomit. If I sound like that, please, someone slap me.

12. T'aint the accent
Plenty of politicians sound like bots because they're unswervingly on-message. Push a button and out come the canned talking points for the 50th time in 10 minutes. But, if you want to see someone teeth-grindingly on-message... with no message at all, then Liddy's yer gal.

11. I've seen one- and he's my other Senator (Burr)
But you're right on. :toast:

I still cringe when I hear her referred to as the "Senior Senator from North Carolina."

Not much familiar with Burr, I'll take your word for it. My storied, colorful homestate of Texas has long been a fount for storied, colorful national assholes. My sympathies, I feel your pain.

19. Yes, it's like if my cat ate the canary
and I put the cat in charge of investigating the killing of the canary. My cat will come back and say that no evidence of wrongdoing was found, that it is safe to get another canary and by all means, leave the cage unlocked overnight like the last time.

Dole is useless. So is Burr.
