that I "don't support our troops". I've posted some of this before, but the older I get, the madder I get. In '72, after I was released from Walter Reed, I told a group of college Republicans outside the hospital, with their "We support our troops" signs, that the only support we were interested in was fire support, so either drop the sign and pick up a weapon, or shut the fuck up. I repeated those sentiments a couple of months ago when some young chickenhawks challenged me about the Kerry-Edwards bumper sticker I still display on my car. Tonight, I came as close as I ever hope to come to snapping. I was going east on Rte 66 outside of DC, heading back from the President's Cup practice matches. I stopped for a drink at a 7-11 just outside of Gainesville, VA. Apparently, all 6 freepers who are heading to Washington to counter-demonstrate were getting a headstart. Again, my bumper stickers generated the same old tired bullshit about loving my country and supporting our troops. I got squarely in the face of the most vocal of the young cretins, and as calmly as I could said, "I was one of the mother-fucking troops. I fought for this country and I bled for her; and I'm sick of listening to mullet-wearing pricks who have never heard a shot fired in anger questioning my patriotism." Fortunately for both of us, he mumbled something, and walked away. The problem is, I wanted to follow him, and the next time I will. They've used up all their free shots.
