Starbucks cups with gay author's quote pulled from Baylor
We all know espresso is one of the pathways to homosexuality

WACO, Texas – Coffee cups with a gay author's quote about growing up homosexual have been pulled from Baylor University's Starbucks coffee shop.

Dining contractor Aramark pulled the cups earlier this month from the campus store following an e-mail sent to Baylor's dining service, saying the quote was inappropriate at a Baptist University.

Aramark, which oversees the coffee outlet, consulted with Starbucks' district office and removed the cups to avoid offending others, Baylor officials said Monday.

"My understanding is it was a decision made by Baylor dining services staff, and I've not yet been able to trace it back to any Baylor administrators telling them point-blank to pull the cup," Baylor spokesman Larry Brumley said. "I think they were trying to be sensitive. Obviously, Baylor is a Baptist-affiliated institution, and Baptists as a denomination have been pretty outspoken on the record about the denomination's views about the homosexual lifestyle."

2. I boycotted Starbucks over this
I told them that writing on my coffee cup just makes my caffinated mind become overloaded and that I can't possibly be expected to study and drink at the same time.

:sarcasm:

7. I emailed them...
Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 09:38 PM by Red_Viking
...and I normally don't do that. In general I try not to frequent Starbucks in favor of a local coffee shop, but occasionally I will drop in. No more. I'm a Texan, and I know how hard-core crazy the Baptists in Waco are. Not that all Baptists are bat-shit, but this lot is. That they're hypocritical goes without saying. For a supposedly "blue" company to bow to pressure this retarded makes me nuts.

Anyway, I emailed them under the heading of "corporate responsibility" and told them how disappointed I was that they let corporate policy be dictated by zealotry. I don't like censorship, no matter what package it comes wrapped in. I will take a detour around their stores from now on, and ask my friends to do the same.

Sigh.

Peace,

RV

Edited: Me talk pretty one day.

10. You mean there is more than one coffee shop in Texas?
I did an internet search for coffee shops in San Antonio and came up with numerous locations back in the 90's that are gone now and wouldn't you know there is now a Starbucks there.

11. I don't live in Texas anymore!
:)

I moved to Oregon a year ago, and there are plenty of local coffeeshops here. But, I lived in Austin all my life before moving, and there were also some great local shops there. Funky places.

Not surprised to see that Starbucks has ousted others, though. They are like a virus.

Peace,

RV

9. "I SUPPORT this decision!!!"

P.S. Homosexuals as a group have been not been nearly outspoken enough about their views about the Baptist lifestyle.

Seems I heard about that a few weeks ago. Fellow got his Burnt-Bean Mucho Muy Grande El Capitano with extra charcoal sprinkles and was not amused by the quote from some Con on the side...

15. That might have been it.
I'm not a customer, I like my coffee warm, tan and mellow, not bubbling hot, black as tar and stronger than paint stripper...
