Amir is a 22-year-old gay Iranian who was arrested by Iran’s morality police as part of a massive Internet entrapment campaign targeting gays. He was beaten and tortured while in custody, threatened with death, and lashed 100 times (see photos). He escaped from Iran in August, and is now in Turkey, where he awaits the granting of asylum by a gay-friendly country.

In a two hour telephone interview from Turkey, Amir -- through a translator -- provided a terrifying, first-hand account of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s intense and extensive anti-gay crackdown, which swept up Amir and made him its victim. Here is Amir’s story:

1. Grrr... Fundies - I hate 'em!

Fundamentalists of any stripe, I hate them all. This is the same sort of government that is on it's way in Iraq, and not far from the sort of theocracy the Christian Right would love to impose in this country.

some here in this country would like. The people who control our "voting" machine companies here would love to kill anyone who doesn't subscribe to their hateful and evil agenda and actually advocate the killing of gay people. The only difference is they would use stones instead of ropes. I really try to not hate, but I truly loathe these dangerous and extremist whackjobs who hide their disgusting agenda behind religion and would love to force these fascists back under the slimy rocks they crawled out from. What you see in Iran (and soon Iraq) is EXACTLY what the few who control our votes plan for America. That alone ought to be a major wakeup call to the People, but all I hear is the sound of crickets chirping.

They ALL create horror. Bury all the holy books.No holy book has ever changed the world.No worship of holy books has stopped war or created human rights.Only when people turn away from religion do they begin to make the world better because they stop looking for saviors from the sky..to fix very human problems.
