Californians!!
What is the word on the street? What are people saying about the recall in private conversations?

1. People are saying they'll be glad when it's over
For me 7:00 AM can't come soon enough. I'm very tired of all the crap and counter-crap.

2. I'm with you.
I just can't tell what is going to happen. The recall people are VERY vocal, the press is all Arnold, all the time. But there is a strange silence from the left.

It could go either way, I have no idea. I think it will be close.

4. But will it be over when it's over?
If Arnold wins, it will be Florida all over again. Not so much the recount, but the lingering bitterness and rage. Arnold's problems have only just begun. As much as California likes to think of itself as separate from the rest of the U.S., this is national issue now.

If the recall fails by a thin margin the Republicans will be all over it like flies on shit.

3. You can cut the air with a knife
Thick with excitement, fear, anticipation, dread.

My perspective is slanted as everyone I know is against the recall. Another friend and I have been doing little things on-line all day to reinforce a NO on the recall vote. My discussions with people over the past weeks have shown most to be against it. But the immediate Bay Area (as opposed to the suburbs around it) does not reflect the more conservative views of the rest of California.

But there is this 'something' in the air. At least SOME OF US know that the consequences of this are IMPORTANT BEYOND THE IMMEDIATE ISSUES.

18. I am convinced that the tide is turning against Republicans....
This is a lose/lose for Republicans.

If the recall is defeated, it is a huge loss for them.

If Arnold wins, the novelty will wear off very quickly.

21. all is quiet here in Totalitarian Texas......
Bad poll numbers for the Governor, but the sheep are basically content.

It is strange, but the notion of recalling a Governor has a nice sound to it from my vantage point.

7. Depends on who you talk to.
We had a recall here last election in my town. The rep. defeated it and you could just feel she would. At this point I don't have that feeling. Sorry. The allegations came too late and a lot of people have already voted by absentee. But when Arnold wins, the controversy won't stop. These 15 women could bring him down though after the election. Could really interfere with his plans. I wish he would lose because we need to move on here and the circus will keep running with him at the helm.

Today the normally reserved conservative leaning people
I work with were anti-Arnold and anti-recall.

This after months of silence.

The recall is going to fail.

17. Women strike out against AS?
Edited on Mon Oct-06-03 09:17 PM by higher class
Did you see those female gender supporters in the background and the audience? Who are the bimbos?

I would like to get in a conversation with them and ask them if they love his violent movies and his abusive and assuming hands as much as they love him?

And will they be angry if he wins and it comes out and is proved that he struck a deal with Enron and Washington to wipe out the lawsuit from Enron that would recover money for the people of California?

12. Here in the beautiful bubble of San Francisco...
Arnold doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell and the recall will be defeated. Now, if we can just get a great voter turnout -- the entire Bay Area (Oakland, Berkeley, Marin, etc.) can neutralize a lot of those blind GOP voters to our north, east, and south. Let's hope the same holds true in LA.

Many polling places have changed -- mine is actually closer to home than my 'usual' polling place.

Personally, I'm a little edgy about it and expect some major f*ck up to throw the election into chaos ala FL 2000. I do hope I'm wrong about that but this has had the look of a Repuke coup for months now.

And finally, Darrell Issa is a patsy for Karl Rove. What a chump.

20. Are there any rules against recalling Ahnuld?
Because if there aren't, I am SO there! We'll just recall the idiot and show Issa and his ilk just what they've opened up.

All I can really hope for is a 'No' vote on the recall. The political process in this state might be saved if that happens, but otherwise...the recall will just become a normal part of the process and will be used for something it was never intended (unpopularity, among other things).

With Ahnuld, though, I think multiple cases of sexual battery count as recall-worthy.

22. Good luck California! We will share your joy or your loss.
Even if he wins, the political backlash will splatter the GOP like a well-launched egg.

No matter what, Arnie will always be known as the predator governor--and the GOP as the "gang of perverts" who elected him.

Cop a feel from an unwilling woman, win an election without winning the most votes...what's the difference when you are a Repug?

23. Here in Orange County when Simon was running I actually think
people were MORE excited.

The only two things Arnold did a good job with were the Indian taxes issue and the drivers licenses for illegal aliens (his term not mine..I prefer undocumented since if they were so illegal, Arnold would not let them clean his hotel room)

Problem with boxing the Indians in on those taxes IS....they keep 100,000 people employed.

Most of his events were staged and by invitation only. Frankly I think the Dems are doing a better GOTV drive.

It's very difficult to call and the whole thing could backfire. All I know is I will be glad when tomorrow is over and I will most likely get out of the game for a while.

It's been very difficult the whole time and another election is right around the corner.

What most people don't understand about letting the vote go forward (granted some were upset by Shelley's position) is that we didn't have the funds to campaign for governor for five more months while protecting the assembly and senate seats we have. We just had a costly election against a millionaire with unlimited funds.

by slamming the Tribal casinos. The casino 'question' was on the ballot twice and, despite Las Vegas money, was overwhelmingly approved twice. I think most people know the casino money goes to assist Tribal concerns. I personally celebrate the Tribes success @ raking in the dough thru the casinos. The Tribes are sovereign nations - they owe the state nothing, as far as I'm concerned.

My Mom & Dad R rethug conservatives & they both applaud the casinos - so I think attacking the Tribes was dumb.

that idiot.... What's even more disgusting is hearing all the situational ethics and dismissive attitudes among the repukes, pundits and shills on the sexual battery issues with AS. Seeing Eunice Shriver out there stumping just made me want to PUKE. I KNOW a few Kennedy's are flipping in their graves right now...

26. The tension is thick....
I work for a very large Union Mechanical Contractor and work in the office as a detailer. There are bitter rivalries in there right now. Some of the Detailers are actually going to vote for Ah-nold!!!
I literally can't believe it, you would think after he bashed the eight hour work day they would see thru the REEP's. I can't stand listening to them, one guy actually told me this today, " I was a democrat until I grew up."

I am disgusted and can't wait till we defeat this recall and these people at my work quit harrassing me. I do have a few Democratic friends at the office. Ever since the groping allegations against AH-nold I have seen more tension around me. That is for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

27. I agree a strange silence
Although the hubby and I were in wine country here in CA and met a couple one for CA and one from FL. I convinced my new found friend who is apololitical to vote no on the recall and she said she would. Our new friend from FlA stated he does not want to move to CA until he finds out if Robot wins. He also stated he wishes there was a way to recall Jeb. LOL. Another winemaker from CA said Robot would be a disaster.

We will find out won't we?
