U.S. right to be in Iraq
The writer of “U.S. should leave Iraq” (letter, Aug. 15) sounds like he watches a little too much CNN and associates with the likes of John Kerry, Ted Kennedy and Cindy Sheehan.
President Bush made a decision to attack Iraq based on the information he was given. He followed through. He promised to take down governments that support and harbor terrorists. The toppling of the Taliban in Afghanistan was swift, and it took us a month to take over Iraq. Our military is occupying two countries and still has the strength to take on any other country on this planet on their soil. Could that be why other Arab countries are suddenly more cooperative with the United States?
If Americans weren’t in this forsaken wasteland of a country, I truly believe that extremists would be planning another 9/11. Why else would we have dirt bags from Syria, Iran, Saudi Arabia and every other hive of hate coming into this country, if not to kill Americans.
We signed our name in the black and knew the risks when we did. As an Individual Ready Reserve call-up, I know that better than most people.
Please remember our fallen brothers and sisters with respect and dignity. It is a life, not numbers. It is a sacrifice, not a political tool. In this world of selfishness, there truly are people who love their country more than themselves and let’s not trample on that.
