Majoritarianism is a poor technique of argument

Ever notice that whenever these conservatives are stumped in an argument they always revert back to rubbing it in our faces that we "lost the election" and that "Bush won". Or they'll make mention of some poll that shows a majority of Americans agree with their point of view. By their logic, because a majority voted for their candidate or because a majority agrees with their point of view on a issue, therefore their candidate and/or their position on the issue must be correct.

This is a poor technique of argument. "The majority agrees with me, so I must be right and you must be wrong." How childish. Debating a point with this line of argument says nothing about the correctness of your point of view.

Fun as it is that Bush's poll numbers are dropping, I would urge people here not to slip into that mode as well. We should argue as if our ideas are the right ideas whether Bush has a 40% approval rating or a 90% approval rating.

2. I counter with the 'ol mom technique: "If everybody jumped off

the Empire State building would you?"

it's fun to watch them stutter. and remind them of their mother, lol.

3. Fine. Let them keep that arguement. And the next time they bring up

"Doin' a heck of a job" Brownie and how the Dems in that committee should have had better oversight and stopped the incompetant, remind them that they won the election, that Bush "deserves" to have the people he wants and how everyone, even incompetent boobs like Brownie, deserve an up or down vote.

I couldn't believe they pulled that shit. "Why didn't the Dems STOP us." Well, gee guys, I guess it's because the election had consequences. It sure did, didn't it.

Make sure all this sticks. THEY are the majority. THEY are responsible for what's happening. Not the Dems, not Clinton, THEM! Suck on it, "gentlemen."
