[The Backlash Cometh]

1. You know, when I was young, I was overwhelmed with the fact that

my generation was underwhelmed. Very unchallenged by the times. Between the mid seventies to about 2000, we had, as a country, a lot of idle time. Which would explain why everyone let their guard down in he 90s, when the right-wingers came in and dicked around with a very delicate government balance that was the result of years of trial and error. We just collectively forgot how bad things can get.

Anyway, during that time, people in my generation did incredibly stupid, stupid things. Like intentionally stay on the coast for the surf and for the hurricane parties. I remember one particularly, wealthy, wealthy child, an heir from Peabody Coal, went and did similar things to what the young man in the picture was doing. Cutting to the chase, the heir died young from an overdose years later. If the young man in the photo has such a penchant for thrill seeking, at least he has the option to enlist to fight in Iraq.

including myself at times, just never connect on the power of a wave.

6. Where's The Outrage?

C'mon...this moron should be flown onto a roof and left with no food or water for a couple days...then he'll understand the real thrills of a hurricane - NOLA style.

I saw people driving along the coastal roads and people surfing in the storm tides of Miami...and I heard only 50% of Key Wet decided to pay attention to the "evacuation" orders in the area.

Of course the corporate media is treating this like it's no big deal. They're just happy to be able to go back to reporting hurricanes where their anchors get blown around, lots of things blow around, you see a couple of roofs blown off and it's on to the next big show.

I used to have a desire to witness a hurricane, after Katrina, I have a newly found respect for nature. I'll stay firmly hidden in the Midwest and deal with the cold and snow.
