Did someone accidentally disconnect the Stupid Ray?

It seems like increasing numbers of Americans, including some in the media, are waking up to the disaster that is the * misadministration. It's as if someone switched off a device that has been shooting Stupidity Rays into American brains for the past 5 years.

I just had a long phone conversation with a guy who's a friend of my brother. He used to be a * supporter and is retired from the military.

This guy is disgusted with the way the Hurricane Katrina mess is being handled, with the outrageous profits of the oil companies, the insanity and waste of the Iraq war, and the huge federal deficit, and told me he was totally fed up with the Chimp. He even admitted to feeling somewhat nostalgic about those heady days in the Clinton era when we actually had a budget surplus.

It simply amazes me that he would ever say these things. But from the things other DU folks have been posting recently, it looks like it's becoming a significant trend.

Instead of gloating to these people who are waking up, we can try to gently encourage them and point out other issues that will reinforce their new viewpoints. In other words, welcome them back to the world of the sane and the living, as opposed to Zombieland.

If gas was a buck and a quarter, Dubya wouldn't be having such a rough patch. Even as it is, public disenchantment seems tentative, like they're discomfited by assigning any blame to the chump. His personal approval ratings are still okay, while every other measure of his performance is tanking hard. They really want to continue following and protecting dear leader.

They really don't want to deal with thinking of taking the true golden rule seriously. They want to stay with their version: the one with the gold makes the rules.

4. The people who were susceptible to the stupid ray

are people who WANT to believe. They have enough going on in their lives and they want to think of the government as a well-oiled machine. They WANT to put their hands on their hearts and say the pledge and believe it. They do not want to think they could be hood-winked by organized bad guys.

So be gentle with them.

6. What took him so long?

Most of us saw the light 5 years ago. Anyone with an ounce of brains could see through the Repub. baloney in 2000. If you've lived through
the last 5 or 6 administrations, you should have learned how to separate the real leaders from the self-serving politicos of this current administration. What I wish we all learned was how to get rid of the mistakes. Seems no matter what happens, we're stuck with them. The greater the influence of "big business" becomes, the smaller voice we have. Its terrible that we have to thank a catastrophe to bring incompetence to light. Now if the country will only remember in 2006 and 2008, we may survive this horror show that is known as the US government.
