2. Perhaps both
Some very effective people in their given fields are, on a personal level, screaming assholes.

5. he was one of the first anchors
i heard legitimize bush's presidency after 911 because bush supposedly rose to the challenge. Bush was 3 days late, ignored the warnings, and from what i can tell - fled the scene and offered no leadership for a while.

i was very disgusted with Williams, and to this day his voice makes me shudder thinking back to that disgusting speech aimed at brainwashing the masses into accepting bush the moron.

4. b., but really annoyed these days
so maybe he will redeem himself by calling out the W admin on its spin cycle. He once was a journalist.
Part of the smarminess comes from that George Hamilton tan thing he has.

6. lol hee George Hamilton tan...
I dunno. He did a good job in NO, but I have no idea if once these CNN/MSNBC anchors get back to their lattes and AC offices if they will remember what it was like in NO at all...

10. MediaMatters: NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams thinks Limbaugh...
should get more credit.

Brian Williams, who replaced Tom Brokaw as anchor and managing editor of NBC's Nightly News on December 2, 2004, said in an interview with C-SPAN founder, president, and CEO Brian Lamb: "it's my duty to listen to Rush" Limbaugh and that "Rush has actually yet to get the credit he is due."

From the December 26, 2004, interview:

WILLIAMS: I do listen to Rush. I listen to it from a radio in my office, or depending on my day, if I'm in the car, I will listen to Rush. And he will tell you I've been listening for years. I think it's my duty to listen to Rush. I think Rush has actually yet to get the credit he is due, because his audience for so many years felt they were in the wilderness of this country. No one was talking to them.

...

Rush said to millions of Americans, you have a home. Come with me. For three hours a day you can listen and hear the like-minded calling in from across the country, and I'll read to you things perhaps you didn't see that are out there. I think Rush gave birth to the FOX News Channel. I think Rush helped to give birth to a movement. I think he played his part in the Contract with America. So I hope he gets his due as a broadcaster.

12. One of the funniest things I ever read
Was the NBC announcement that Williams was taking over for Brokaw. Some NBC suit said Brian could relate well to male red state voters because he "loves NASCAR and owns a pellet gun". A pellet gun for crissakes. What a macho guy. I had a pellet gun whe I was six. I hate NASCAR and live in a blue state but I think this makes him sound like a girlyman.

14. I used to have a crush on him...
...but then I saw him on Conan O'Brien and he just came off like the smarmiest prick I've ever seen. Maybe he was just trying to be funny because he was on stage with a funny guy like Conan, but it just came off poorly. I posted about it once before. He should decide whether he wants to be a journalist or an entertainter. Either he's trying to be an entertainer or he is in fact a prick. Either way, it's not pretty to watch.
