LAURENS BUREAU
LAURENS — Teens will now be required to stay off Laurens streets between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. the rest of the week after the city council unanimously passed a curfew into law.
The council passed the new law on second and final reading with no holdouts — nor was there any discussion from the public.
Although the public hearing had been scheduled since last month's meeting, not one member of the community showed up Tuesday to voice their opinions for or against the move.
The curfew applies to anyone under 17, with special exceptions for teens who work or attend school or church functions and are traveling home.
It is the second such curfew in the county, following similar action in Gray Court and Clinton .
