"What should be cut from federal budget to pay for Katrina"

Hmmm, earlier this morning I had sent him an email requesting he ask the REAL question, and that was if people thought the tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans should be stopped to pay for Katrina.

Guess he decided to edit it a bit...let him know how you feel!

THIS IS WHAT I SENT IN:

What should we cut from the budget??
First of all....make the Senators and Congresspeople take a 15% cut in pay. They are all over paid.

Make Halliburton GIVE BACK some of the money they have stold in overbilling the USA for the "work" they have done in Iraq.

MAKE THE OIL COMPANIES PAY DOUBLE IN TAXES!!! They have record profits.

Take the TAX CUTS FROM BUSH'S FRIENDS.....the millionaires and billionaires.

Then, CUT THE PORK FROM THAT HIGHWAY BILL. $230 for that bridge!!!! How stupid does government think "We the People" are??? Look at the junk in that bill. Here are some examples:
* $230 million for the infamous "Bridge To Nowhere" in Alaska which will service an island town of just 50 people
* $4 million for bike paths and park space in Calexico, California
* $4 million for sidewalk improvements in Clarkson, Georgia
* $3 million for a river path in Springfield, Oregon
* $2.8 million for a bike/pedestrian path in Madison, Wisconsin
* $2.7 million for renovation of the Packard Museum in Warren, Ohio
* $2.48 million for bike/pedestrian paths in Chicago, Illinois
* $2.3 million for landscaping enhancements along the Ronald Reagan Freeway in California
* $2 million to construct an "intermodal center" at the Philadelphia Zoo in Pennsylvania
* $2 million for a parking garage in San Antonio, Texas
* $1.8 million to construct a visitor interpretive center at the Gray Fossil Site in Tennessee
* $1.2 million to install lighting/steps at the Blue Ridge Music Center in Virginia
* $640,000 to extend a bicycle trail in Aberdeen, South Dakota
* $320,000 for a new bicycle/pedestrian trail in Shelbyville, Tennessee
* $33,440 for a trolley barn in Harrison, Arkansas

That nuclear weapons development program would be a good start.

You could also ask KBR for the 7 billion or whatever it was they lost in Iraq.

Kill that goddamned tax cut.

Close the offshore tax loophole.

Dismantle the Department of Fatherland Security.

Cut all of the Executive Branch's PR budget.

I'm just getting warmed up here.

you asked what we should cut to pay for katrina?

First let me quote the preamble...

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Now I highlighted the Promote the General Welfare for a reason, you see we all need to pay our fees to live in this country. This means, we need to pay service fees, all of us... so what to cut, those ridiculous tax breaks for the very rich... that is a start. If they don't want to pay for the services they can move somewhere else... after all they will do such anyway after the country is fully destroyed.

By the way, start adding another 200 B at least for Rita...

A real leader would have ask what can you do for your country and would have asked about common sacrifice... but President Bush is not a real leader, never has been a real leader, but a puppet of a fascist cabal that has taken over the country.

So the first thing we need to cut is the President who needs to be impeached... we are about to add Rita to the many reasons for it. That Sir would be a good solid start, and well, getting rid of those ridiculous tax cuts.

(1) Completely eliminate funding for the Iraq disgrace.
(2) Take back the extravagant tax giveaways to the ultra-rich.
(3) Eliminate some positions in the Government, starting with George Bush's.

There are a number of ways to deal with it. First, reduce drastically our military budget and bring it in line with rational modes of organizing governance. We did not revolutionize the colonial system to set up a police state, nor a global military panopticon. Divert that funding, which would dwarf the necessary funds for Katrina’s rebuilding requirements, to the effort. Take the remainder and reinvest it in our collective infrastructure (education, health care, roads, education, more education, some health care on top of the rest, and then the rest to our first responders and national guard); beginning with the effected Gulf Region. Second, our budget should not be limited by cutting taxes on upper class citizens. They have a moral imperative to pay them. If they do not want to they can leave this country. We don’t want them here. Invest that money in both job training programs and entrepreneurship opportunities for the working poor who were most impacted by this disaster (and no Trent Lott losing his home is not an adequate comparison, though I’m sure it’s a trying time for poor Trent), use it to give them the training necessary to obtain the jobs they need to remain solvent in our inflationary economy. Finally, reduce our military budget some more and reinvest it in the army corps of engineers, disaster research, and environmental science and/or meteorology. They’ll be necessary for forecasting these happenings in the future, given the presence of rapid climate change, regardless of the B.S. that the pseudo-science skeptics tell republicans.

Tax breaks for corporations.
No bid contracts for corporations.
Tax breaks for the rich.
The so-called death tax repeal.

All these things should be cut from the federal budget.
