"Slick Willy" changed the name of bowling alleys to bowling
centers because the term alleys sound so dirty, and he wants bowling to be associated with "family" values. This was said on the local radio sports show I listen to. How stupid is this thinking? Guess it's normal for the red necks around here. :grr:

2. No shit?
I've never heard the term bowling center, even in good ol' Democratic NYC where you'd expect people to follow Clinton's lead, they're called bowling alleys. Even the foreigners call 'em bowling alleys.

Back home in the midwest, they call 'em bowling alleys everywhere I've been, too.

In fact, even when on military bases while Clinton was president, they were bowling alleys. And you'd think that if the president decided to rename something, the military would be the first to adapt.

5. People might call them "alleys but the
"alleys" don't call themselves alleys. Ask Don Carter. :-)

3. They're saying that?
I've been around this here ole earth for 65 years. They stopped calling them bowling alleys 30 or 40 years ago. When they started building bigger bowling "centers" they wanted to appeal to the entire family and ditch the old image of hangouts for men only. But Bill Clinton? No way.

4. I know for a fact that's bullshit
since I worked in a bowling center all through Reagan/Iran Contra and Bush the Smarter, and it was during that time that our company asked us to start calling it a "center" instead of an "alley". This would've been around 1988 or so

the center was in VA, owned by a company based in NY

7. but doesn't the word "alley" basically refer to
where you roll the ball? Or is that lane? And then there's the gutter. . .

9. Dubya changed the name of historical periods to historical moments because
the word "periods" makes some of his base voters nervous.
