Do you consider Taiwan a real country?

I'd say yes and no.

I don't consider it a province of China, but at the same time, the Taiwanese people have never decided their status.

1. I say no but...

I don't think of it as another country, it was a territory before the cultural revolution and just so happened to have a bolstering economy while it was going on, this led to some wanting to claim their independence, which I don't feel valid.

BUT

I think China should let go of it and Tibet (a territory which doesn't even speak the same language consistently) seeing as how China wouldn't miss either, economically or demographically.

2. I think Taiwan needs China more than vice-versa, actually.

Taiwan could be economic steam-rolled by China's growing regional influence in the next 20 years.. I know many Taiwanese companies are beating feet into China for their survival.

I think China gets a lot of value having Taiwan independent, like Hong Kong...I hope they can find a way to mutually co-exist.
