7. Christ's first miracle was changing water into wine. . .
so I don't think Jesus has a problem with a little drink now and then.

10. Christians are allowed to drink--"A little wine for your stomach's sake"
as St. Paul said. But we are not allowed to get drunk. BIG no-no. Even worse is saying you are a Christian when it's not really true. Not making judgements here, just saying, as Jesus said in Matthew, "Wisdom is proved right by her actions." Or--can't think of the reference right now, but there's the other verse that says "By their fruits you shall know them (followers of Christ)."

Just what I learned from 50-odd years in the evangelical-fundamentalist arena.

18. Not all Christians. Not Southern Baptists, for instance
They drink grape juice at their services. I've asked how they could do this if the Bible is to be taken literally, as they claim, since Jesus drank wine. They never answer me. Not even a grunt or a sigh. Not anything.

30. oh easy one
I remember what they used to tell me (I grew up Southern Baptist) - that was UNFERMENTED WINE - not fermented wine. So really just "grape juice" - but you know translations and all - well they called it "wine" but it wasn't an alcoholic wine....

(Yes, they can twist their heads around backwards.)

48. "Back Door" Baptists
When I was in the seminary (Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY -- back when it was "liberal"), we used to refer to Back Door Baptists -- the ones who used the back door at the liquor store so they wouldn't be seen.

8. i HAVE A FRIEND WHO IS AN ALCOHOLIC
and he says that his therapist says it is important to stay away from high stress situations that could cause a return to the bottle. I would imagine that just being President is high stress enough and the Iraq War and Katrina only add to the problem that is topped off with falling approval ratings.
Seems to me that Bush could save himself and us a lot of future grief by packing his bag and going home NOW. Then we can all watch as stress does its number on Cheney.

...besides the obvious, of course. The article says -- or rather quotes "sources" as saying -- that Bush is drinking again because he's so distressed by Katrina and by the deaths of American soldiers in Iraq. He takes every death personally. Uh-huh.

Yeah, so affected that he won't even bother to say a soldier's name. So affected he acts like he's at a party when he's speaking to the soldier's family. Riiiight. :eyes:

"And now with the worst domestic crisis in his administration over Katrina, you pray his drinking doesn't go out of control."

No, no, I don't.

25. They do sometimes print the truth. During the Clinton-Dole election
they were the only ones to print articles about Doles checkered past of using his top aides to raise illegal funds for his campaIgns.

Is this the truth? Who knows? But it can't be dismissed out of hand any more than I should have dismissed the early Clinton-Monica stories.

28. The problem is,
we never know what the truth is in these rags without going back in hindsight and checking.

To be honest, I would not be the slightest bit surprised if Boosh was boozing again. It is probably likely, IMO. If we ever find out that he is, we can remember back when the Enquirer was right.

The Enquirer is widely read in the Red States and in rural areas. A lot of people believe what they read there, just like they believe Rush and Fox. I think this is a body blow to the Chimp, true or not.

as originally "Bush is off the Weapon......" and the image that flooded
me was of him leaving the room where the red button sits... of him going
somewhere else, so that the world is safe from a criminal with access
to nuclear weapons. And rather, a dry drunk crashing more value out of
the collective economies of the world to the tune of trillions of dollars,
destroying value and a rate unprecedented in all history of western
culture. By him, the vandals who sacked rome were but minor notes
next to bush's shakespearean tragedy.
