It's starting already...evac problems in TX county
Edited on Wed Sep-21-05 06:50 PM by rainbow4321
Per Brazoria County judge on TX Cable News network:

No state troopers sent to help direct traffic on an evac route ordered by the state...25 are there now but they are the county's regular troopers, the ones in the north part of the county were taken away to cover Galveston.

9 car pile up/accident and then in a separate accident a car flipped over---ALL hospitals in the county shut down this morning--anyone injured in evac accidents are screwed, they will have to be sent elsewhere

NOT ENOUGH ambulances to evac critically ill patients, the judge just put out a plea on cable news for ambulances to head into the county to help transport them out. The county's mandatory evac started at 6 pm tonight.

3. Their county newspaper about the closed hospitals

Yikes, they really did shut down. The judge said for now they can still Lifecare (copter) injured people to Houston hospitals but how long will that be an option?? Houston will soon be having problems of their own.

Travel time from Galveston to Houston (normally 45 minutes) is right now 4 hours..and that is JUST to get into Houston and doesn't include all the evacuation travellers yet to start heading north. Me thinks this will get uglier way before it gets better.

Sweeny Community Hospital, which plans to close at 6 p.m. Wednesday, stopped admitting patients at 6 a.m. Wednesday, said Rhonda Moran, hospital spokeswoman. All patients have been evacuated from the hospital and assisted-living patients are staying with family, she said.

The hospital’s ambulances will stop running at noon Thursday, Moran said.

Ambulances from Angleton will respond to calls, but there won’t be a hospital to take patients, said Lucille Mayes of the Angleton Area Emergency Medical Corps. That same holds true for Brazosport area ambulances.

4. Oh man... these poor people...
They have to have traffic helicopters out there, right? I wonder if they could get LifeFlight trauma teams from other areas in TX to help those people...

5. Shhhhh,
The neo-cons don't want to admit that federal assistence is needed to evacuate a major American city. That would be admitting to only a portion of their criminal guilt in New Orleans.

Now, back to watching the plane fly around for hours until it burns off enough fuel to land--that is news
