I have to say, watching that grind away like that -- something straight out of a cartoon -- was one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

I cannot believe it even stayed completely straight, directly on the center line. Those pilots need a serious raise.

OnEdit: I had no idea how much stress this had built up in me until just now. I'm worried about family in the way of Rita, worried about people in New Orleans, worried about all the rest of us and what's happening with everything right now. I just don't know if I could have handled one more horrid tragedy.

This weekend is going to suck. I am so thankful they are down okay.

6. Well, I'd just say they were doing their job. I had a similar thing happe
to my plane (well, my company's plane) years ago. I'm glad they didn't get crazy and send everyone down the slides...that would probably have hurt some people.

I think JB is a pretty good employer from what I hear. I never flew for an airline, only corps. It's a very different world.

15. Question for you, karl
As the gear hit the white line flames shot out. In between the lines the flames lessened. Was the runway paint accelerating the flames? My husband, the retired firechief, observed this. Just wondering what you thought. cmd

16. It looked like the aft tire blew out & caught fire, probably from the heat
of the rim scraping on the runway. You can see from the video the other (left?/front) one didn't burn, it ended up lying in front of what was left of the nose strut. I seriously doubt any paint was involved.

18. I did observe all that
but also noticed the intensity increased every time the wheels hit one of the white lines. Mr. cmd is trained to notice burn patterns and pointed this out. Just wondered what you thought. Thanks.

19. I was trying to see if the c/l paint was gouged up behind the strut but
couldn't really tell...but I suppose that some of it got heated up & oxidized by the scraping steel. He may very well be right.
