Why is the media all over the New Orleans mayor all of a sudden?
Miles Obrien roasted the mayor this morning, what's up with that?

BTW, is he married to Soledad?

4. He did that yesterday, too.
I was getting pretty annoyed ... saying things like hurricane season lasts till the end of November, so why let people in before then. Jeez!

Don't know about him and Soledad. They sure are flirty, though.

8. Because they are owned by giant war profiteering corporations...
and are trying to make the stuffed shirt leader of the cabal look better.

The mass media is simply the propaganda arm of multinational, war profiteering corporations. The leaders of these corporations now rule this Nation. We are being fleeced and 40% of the American People still approve.

11. The media takes no sides, they just look for excitement, or fabricate
it when nothing is exciting to report.

16. They take no sides?
There's been enough bushit for them to get excited about for 5 years now and they've been giving the toad a pass almost all of the way. Only when Katrina hit and reporters were out of the confines of the studio and control of the producers did they actually do REAL reporting. Now, it's business as usual. Their Corporate overlords are keeping a heavy thumb on them again.

9. "all of a sudden?" They've been after him for days now!
The worst was the guy on KEOB saying that the Texas governor and the Florida governor know what they are doing and will be prepared....a direct swipe at Nagin. Can you say "sacrificial lamb?"

18. EXACTLY! Something the "liberal" media seems to be overlooking!
Joe Scarborough made a reference to it one night when he was angry and his defenses were down. He said, "what do you have to be to get results, the brother of the President?" Of course, he back pedalled and watered his statement down once he came to "his senses" and realized he could blame Nagin - even though Scarborough was talking about Mississippi! :o

10. Probably talking points of the day
KKKarl Rove's media memo. Can anyone really expect any city mayor really being prepared for a catastrophe like Katrina?

12. That's what is so ridiculous
Edited on Wed Sep-21-05 08:57 PM by mirandapriestly
He was a victim of the hurricane/flood too. Yet these "news" stations keep insinuating that he was at fault, although they never really say how. Anything to take the heat off of *ler, it makes me sick.

19. good, depressing article.
I remember watching the "real" reporting after the hurricane then watching as "business as usual" slowly took back over.

17. Logical cover-up of the fact what happened in New Orleans was...
methodically deliberate genocide-by-neglect. Don't ever forget that Bush is the ultimate accomplishment of capitalism -- his policies (whether in the aftermath of Katrina or in Iraq) its crowning achievements -- and that the same oligarchy that thrust Bush into the presidency also totally controls U.S. mass media. The demonizing of Nagin is the beginning of a wholly predictable shift: within six months -- maybe within three months -- the savage culpability of the Bush Administration will have been totally obscured, and once the blame is irrevocably shifted to Nagin, Governor Blanco and of course the "lawless" people of New Orleans themselves -- "lawless" the newest bourgeois buzz-word for black and/or poor -- it will be back to the corporate media norms: bread-and-circus entertainments of missing (blonde) co-eds and engrossing (but ultimately meaningless) Hollywood scandals. As always in the New America, Goebbels prevails!
