Lady on TXCN just said she is more worried about vandals than Rita.
Edited on Wed Sep-21-05 10:21 PM by Bouncy Ball
She is on GALVESTON ISLAND. They showed a projected path and said storm surges of 50 feet. The sea wall is NOT that high. The UT computer projections show Galveston being wiped out, underwater.

And she said "I'm not as worried about the hurricane as I am about vandals."

What could I do but shake my head? Why the hell is she even still THERE? Most of Galveston is a ghost town now.

But she's worried about someone vandalizing her bar, which will very likely be underwater soon.

Go to http://maps.google.com and type in Galveston, Texas and look at that. The only real way OFF the island and on to the mainland is I-45. Which has been packed. Galveston is a barrier island.

3. Radism?
All I could think was "she's going to die. She won't be worried about vandals."

4. I used to live in that neck o woods and on the news, every
time a hurricane or tropical storm came near, there would be idiots surfing out there.

6. Yep, I've seen them too.
Anyone who tries to surf anywhere near this will be promptly thrown and slammed into something hard.

Or drowned.

5. Poor simple fool
Sounds to me like she bought the hype of NO 100%. Damn, I wonder how many other people might feel this way and decide not to leave areas that will be flooded?

7. There's people like that in every 'cane
Its hard to understand. Its ignorance at its core
-some dont trust the "officials" in Gov't
-some dont think it'll "be that bad" Been thru hurricane Lucille back in '39 they'll say
-some fear for their property
-some are just stupid stubbern
-some just would rather let the Lord take them home
-some fear the looting more than the storm: they think they can take their chances with the storm, but be able to hedge their chances with looters
-some are just aching for that ol' American independence and self-reliance

The cops will take their names and next of kin and tell them-"don't bother calling us during the storm or in the near thereafter-you've been warned"

9. Where she is, she will most likely not survive.
I just heard the few surfers you normally see out there even with a hurricane coming aren't even out. It's empty, deserted.

Well, I mean except for silly people wanting to protect their bars from vandals while they are under 10 feet of water or more.

10. They showed computer projections from UT.
Galveston will be under water. The sea wall isn't high enough for this one.

It's happened to that island before, though. They just need to get everyone out of there. People refusing to leave are being told "you're on your own."

13. Was it Brad Pitt's line from...
...Fight Club where he said:

"It gets to the point where the stuff you own owns you."??

Or something like that. What could be so important, so irreplaceable in this woman's bar that she's willing to lose her life over? :wtf:

15. 50 feet?
Did you hear that right? They're saying 50 feet? Gilbert had less than 20 foot surges, Camille had 25 foot surges, and Katrina may have been around 30, though evidence now is hinting it may have been lower.

You sure they said 50?

The hurricane of 1900 had a surge of less than fifteen feet, they estimate.

16. I'm positive.
They said it on the local news and then again on TXCN. I know it was fifty because I was so shocked to hear that. Husband said "What the FUCK?" when we heard that.

Now they could have it wrong, but that's definitely what they said. It gave me chills.

17. She needs to see the pictures here at this link

Unless she's worried about scuba diving vandals, she's not living in this dimension. And if she is worried about that, well, then she's off her meds.
