1. He's talking about the vouchers.

I don't think anyone's "pulling" them out, but Bush is wanting to give them vouchers to enroll in private schools. A small shade of difference, and still evil, IMO.

is defending the use of vouchers for private education BUT saying the public education budget needs to be cut to accomodate these vouchers. What good is private schooling vouchers going to do in rural America?

And at the same time, we have to continue to comply with onerous NCLB regulations that require us to hire non-district private tutoring firms (stacked with Bush cronies) to provide one-on-one tutoring. Which is TOTALLY against federal regulations for US to do UNTIL we fall into the sanction phase of NCLB. It's as nonsensical as the Katrina response.

4. New Orleans was 1/3 private

Alot of kids went to Catholic School there, so they ought to be allowed to do the same thing wherever they are now. Catholic schools in Louisiana have used state or federal funds for non-religious books, etc., for a long long time. Maybe always. I'm sure lots of families are baffled about the way schools work in other cities. Might not be anything sinister at all.

7. I agree. My sisters withdrew her kids fom Catholic schools

because of what she perceived as high enrollment and low results. They also did far better in public school and my neice was diagnosed with a hearing disability by the staff of public schools. She was finally given help.

It says they're pulling kids out of public school, to which I pointed out that kids going to Catholic school wouldn't be all that unusual for New Orleans students. It doesn't mean any kids are specifically being pulled out of public schools for the pure purpose of implementing a religious experiment.

In any event, Ted Kennedy is saying that, considering the need, we need to focus on public schools first. Seems reasonable as well, the need is overhwelming. But it also seems that Catholic school is a part of New Orleans heritage, and shouldn't be lost in all of this either.

11. they are forcing the voucher issue

by putting hurricane kids into "private schools" (meaning buble thumper indotrination facilities) and calling for this to be paid for by vouchers.

So, if a Dem opposes the vouchers, they will be accused of not supporting schooling for the hurricane kids. If they DO support this manouver, they are supporting school vouchers.
