‘Must-read’ writer a patriot
I read “Document is a must read” (letter, Sept. 20), about the Project for a New American Century (PNAC).
I was very pleased to see that there are still young officers thinking for themselves and looking deeper into the throes of our current political situation.
Two events brought PNAC into the mainstream of American government: the disputed election of George W. Bush, and the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. When Bush assumed the presidency, the men who created and nurtured the imperial dreams of PNAC became the men who run the Department of Defense and the White House. When the towers came down, these men saw their chance to turn their “White Papers” into substantive policy.
I have been aware of the Project for a New American Century for a long time now, but I have until recently kept my political views to myself.
The letter writer is right when he says this is a “must read” because that neo-conservative think tank has laid out the blueprints for our future, if they are to maintain control of our government and resources. They have counted on our collective complacency for years, and it is time to bring these issues to light.
e as a people had better start becoming aware of what is really going on in D.C.
To the letter writer: Thank you for giving me hope in the officer corps. I hope that there are many more patriots like you who are not willing to subject themselves to a “group-think” mentality because if the “fit ever hits the shan,” we, the people, will be counting on soldiers like you to defend us from our own draconian government.
