Boy, the Texas and Florida hurricane preparations are going very well,
and food, water and troops (diverted from NOLA) have been strategically placed to move in quickly in the crucial hours after the storm hits.

Because we'll never forget the lessons learned on September the Eleventh...I mean, from hurricane Katrina.

It's hard work, but we're makin' good progress.

:sarcasm:

Can't you just hear it?

1. That thought crossed my mind too. I wonder if * can be called up by
the Texas NG? That would be poetic justice. Or at least a start of it.

4. Except nursing home's ambulances are being commandeered
Deja vu.....state blames FEMA, FEMA is blaming state. Private serivces saying that they "overcommitted" in helping.

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/texassouthwest/stories/092205dntexritanursinghomes.17eba34f.html

Nursing home operators along Texas' Gulf Coast are finding that even with evacuation plans in place, they're having trouble moving the frail and elderly out of Hurricane Rita's path.

Private bus companies canceled promised service, saying they had agreed to help evacuate more nursing homes than they could. Two nursing home owners said state emergency management officials had taken control of ambulances that their homes had counted on to transport their sickest residents.

A spokeswoman for Gov. Rick Perry denied that the state seized ambulances but said the Federal Emergency Management Agency "is contracting with a number of ambulance companies to move resources around as they are needed." FEMA spokesman Ross Fredenburg said the agency had no role in evacuations, and he knew of no contracts for ambulances.

After nightmarish accounts of failed evacuations of New Orleans nursing homes after Hurricane Katrina, the agency that regulates long-term care in Texas said last week that it checked not only that homes had transportation plans but that contractors could carry out such plans. Still, many of the arrangements were falling through.

5. I think it's nice they're proving again who was at fault with Katrina.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to observe the enormous difference in FEMA's response. Let's watch it play out. We really have no choice.

8. HEY! I heard Uber Secretary Mike Chirtoff say on the Radio today...
Edited on Thu Sep-22-05 12:46 AM by Up2Late
...that the trucks are ready to roll into New Orleans, and have been Pre-staged and already to roll.

I wonder when he's going to realize that they are not needed in N.O. this time and they should be staging in Texas?
