I imagine Rita is really going to expose how thin our military is stretched.

And with our country's rescue and red cross resources concentrating in New Orleans and the area that Rita destroys, let's not even think what will happen in the event of a terrorist attack.

5. Take care, sir. I pray that your state dodges the bullet. Let us know on
DU if there is anything we can do to help. Start a new thread. I really dislike this administration but I just might volunteer for active duty with the Coast Guard. So far they haven't called my specialty (I get e-mails from them, even though I resigned in July) but I have shipmates who've volunteered to serve there.

8. Stay safe. This must be driving you guys crazy.
You should be helping your people.

Our only hope is that Bush and Co. have been shocked into letting the people who know what they're doing lead this hurricane response.

Let's hope the professionals are in charge for this hurricane.

11. Hey Roscoeroscoe
America is changing with each passing day. People are finally waking up and realizing that "supporting the troops" means insisting that they come home right away rather than fight in an unjust and illegal war.

There will be a massive antiwar protest in DC on Saturday. I've heard it's going to be the largest antiwar protest since the Vietnam War.

Meanwhile, Katrina blew off the blinders off a lot of Americans who until then, did not realize the president had been walking around naked all these years.

And now Rita is expected to destroy a large part of Texas so things are just getting worse.

So how is the mood out there among National Guardsmen when they hear about these hurricanes?

Do most of the troops still support bush and the war?

6. Since George Bush was AWOL from TANG in the 70s
So he is in a fabulous position now to advise the Texas "National" Guard on how to not be present this time around.

Helps to have a "man" with experience at the helm.

10. Found this report earlier
Is this any use? From the 15th September

http://www.thevictoriaadvocate.com/local/local/story/3035060p-3518845c.html

Quote from the article:

While no one with the local unit - Company B, 1st Batallion, 141st Infantry Brigade of the 36th Infantry - has been sent to aid in the Katrina recovery, Bristow said, the remaining members of the 75-to-80-person unit are in Iraq, Afghanistan or in Fort Hood, awaiting transfer to Kosovo.

"We're hurting," the recruiter said. "We are stretched to the max right now. How can people help? They can join the National Guard."
