Poll question: Who is your favorite Weather Channel Hurricane Reporter?

O.K., I'm a little biased toward The Weather Channel, because these folks ARE Meteorologist and not just Ratings Whore Journalists who go and stand out in a hurricane, and Hurricane Season is the Highlight of the Weather Channel year, but I'll include a few them too.

1. No Fair!

I like Stephanie, Jim Cantore and Seidel...they're excellent and my favorites to watch during the storm...I hate having to choose among them. I eventually chose Seidel because I didn't want to slight his efforts...Stephanie and Cantore are obviously the most popular.

The Weather Channel does and excellent job of getting the facts out and educating the public....unfortunately most meteorology types I know (and I have a relation in the business) are all Repubs...although they were pretty upset with Dubya's budget cuts to NWS and NOAA.

2. I know, but I am truly shocked at how popular Jim Cantore is...

...but my heart belongs to Stepanie.

5. You know, though,

They fake a lot of their coverage. My family and I all live in different parts of Florida and last year when we had all those hurricanes, the Weather Channel crews were all over the place. In two separate locations, we saw crew members off camera tossing stuff up into the wind to get that "flying debris" look on camera. Another trick they employ is to stand between two large condo or hotel buildings and use that as kind of a wind tunnel, making it look tremendously more powerful than it really is. Even on a relatively calm day, the wind howls off of the ocean between the condos. I'm not discounting the fact that they are there, in the storm, but all that glitters isn't necessarily gold.

6. Some of that might be true, but most of the time, they stand...

...next to a building to get out of the full force of the hurricane.

Most likely, when they get caught in the "condo wind tunnel," it's because they failed to recognize that the wind direction had changed (i.e. they stayed too long in one location and should have moved).

7. They are vying for ratings like everyone else.

I'm sure that during the actual storm, when it's really dangerous out (winds above 50mph or so) they take shelter, but during the non-stop coverage period before that time, they are overdramatizing. I've seen it with my own eyes. They are very well aware of the wind direction and use the physics of the concrete jungle beachside to their distinct filming advantage.
