Is Rita still heading right towards Crawford?

Last I heard (yesterday morning), the most likely path was one where Crawford would pass through the eye wall of the storm twice, ie face the strongest winds and the worst devastation. Is this still a likely course?

And if God is sending these storms to hit American because of it's sins....

At a CAT 1, the hurricane winds are found only close to the eye itself.

Waco/Crawford is a heck a lot more than 50 miles west of 45. Also, the west side of the storm is better than the east side.

I grew up in central Texas, and where the storm is starting to shift it's track is reducing impact on Crawford. My parents are 75-100 miles southeast of Waco, and they aren't concerned.

which is located 90 miles inward and Charlotte was hit as well.

18. Sorry, but your understanding of the geography of Texas isn't

very good. My mother grew up in Myrtle Beach (my grandmother and aunt were there during Hugo), so I'm familiar with SC. Hugo made landfall at Charleston and then traveled inland west/northwest. It passed probably 20-25 miles to the west of both Sumter and Charlotte. As I said, being on the east side of the eye is worse than being on the west.

In contrast, the current predictions are for the eye of Hurricane Rita to track 200 miles east of Crawford. I doubt Crawford's going to get much if anything. Now, it's possible that if the high pressure system changes, the storm could start tracking more westerly, but only time will tell.

Right side has eye winds plus the forward motion of the storm.
Left side has eye winds minus the forward speed of the storm.

So if the storm has a forward speed of 15Mph, then there is a difference of 30mph between the two sides of the eye.

A direct hit by the eye would have the average speed.
