Democrats need to draw a line in the sand.
The Repubs are so emboldened from the lack of response from the Democrats that they are now asking to cut every program that people depend on. Democrats need to raise their voices. Go ahead MFers! We will make the next election about this. Rather than ask your wealthy friends to give back the taxcut, you ask the rest of America to sacrifice. That will be the issue in the next election! Go ahead if you have the balls. We fucking dare you!

1. evoting machines. They will do anything they damn well please
because they own the evoting machines and know that they can steal any election they want. They don't care what we think. They don't care what the majority of Americans think. LOOK at the poll numbers! One would think the repukes would take a step back and reevaluate their agenda, but they aren't doing that, are they? Know why? They own the evoting machines. :(

3. How many democrats does it take to draw a line in the sand?
All of us!

or 51--if they all stand together while drawing.

I blame Leahy-style behavior for the inability to do so. It would not have cost Leahy ONE VOTE from his constituents for him to vote no on Roberts.

Who does his vote represent?

5. This was only a committee vote....
He was coming out of committee one way or the other. It didn't matter. Anyway, it is politically naive to not know that the real battle is the next nominee. Don't waste all your ammunition and pick your fights carefully.

a Charles Dickens novel type of society apparently with no more than a muted whimper of objection.

7. As I have said already
keep yer poweder dry, keep yer poweder dry, what is coming is a very nasty and violent revolotion...

I might even paraphrase Kennedy on this one... those who prevent peaceful change, ensure a violent one

10. I've been thinking that's what it may come to, too
If those who are supposed to represent us are merely enabling the opposition and if the integrity of our elections is compromised, what else is left that can be done?

14. Those radicals called the Founding Fathers gave us
guidance on this, and none of us chose to live at this historical moment, but I will contend, this is not so different from the test they faced... the quiestion is will we pass the test?

16. Dems are whipped, emasculated, ineffectual
they can't win elections, they are so beholden to their own corporate masters that they can not muster the courage to do the right thing.

Pathetic.

I wish I'd gone into politics.

18. They cannot win with a Republican-lite approach
The reason people stay at home in such great numbers on election day is that they cannot see how their vote would make any difference. One thing is for sure, the Dems did not stop us from being where we are today.

17. They haven't officially suggested anything yet
This is going to be death for them if they try to cut all those programs. Killing that stupid prescription plan and jettisoning tax cuts for the rich and cutting spending on Iraq will do the job. Of course, they would rather die that do any of those, but I don't think the American people will feel the same way.
