MADISON, Wis. — Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean tried to attract younger voters Sunday with a rally and speech on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The former Vermont governor told a mostly college-aged crowd, estimated at 5,000, that the 2004 election would be about a transfer of power to their generation.

Earlier in the day, a handful of supporters for Democratic candidate John Kerry gathered near the Capitol building at a closed diner, which is serving as Kerry's campaign headquarters in Wisconsin.

Campaign volunteers decorated the windows with Kerry campaign signs and a hand-drawn poster that read, "Howard's House of Waffles."

What I saw in that strategy though was Dean tapping into the frustration of the many of us who had watched our party of "loyal opposition" roll over for Jr. Perhaps you were ok with it all but some of us were sick and tired and angry. Key word, angry.

I seem to recall a certain American revolution of sorts back in the 90's that tapped into the electorates's anger.....and that particular anger was basically manufactured. The anger Dean tapped into was genuine and happened to be directed at Team Bush and their Dem enablers.

Just what is it Kerry is trying to tap into? The angry masses who hate Dean for saying Medicare is a mess because they think it's just right? :-)

You also claim to think that candidates should stick to bashing Bush, and not each other, but when someone on DU attacks another candidate, you laugh along with, demonstrating that you only get upset when Dean is the one being attacked. Other times, you find it entertaining.

dear. Show me where I said "it was ok". I said I didn't applaud it and that I understood the strategy of it. There is a difference between understanding someting and condoning. One would think with your inferences regarding my reading comprehension you'd be a bit more precise in your own replies.

I'll go so far as to say that if those in Congress who now claim they were mislead by Bush were to have gotten angry perhaps their campaigns would be doing a little better. Who's to say? :shrug:

to some extent Kuchinich. I think they're amking a mistake by being so negative all of the time. To be honest, that's why I was attracted to Clark - he seemed to be above the fray. The other candidates need to start giving out some positive messages - give people hope.

So far, Clark's running a "positive" campaign. It will be interesting to see if this lasts. I'll bet he can turn "nasty" if pushed.

and I think that's what "deal" might have been getting at. Kerry often seems disconnected from his audience which makes him come across as cold and above it all.

It's a flaw, I wish he'd worked harder on. But, maybe it just isn't something one can't change. Obviously all the choaching Chimp's gotten hasn't worked for him, either. People just are they way they are at a certain point.
