People filling up plastic containers. They're not even evacuating. A straight panic.

2. When I filled up today, the station was in the process of raising
the prices, and the people waiting for the pumps to turn back on were berating the attendants.

4. Is this somewhere in the storm path, or just general public panic?
Just saw another thread asking if the TX National Guard is coming back from OilWar II.

12. Sounds like both.
Some are leaving, some are not. But even those who are not are in panic mode.

Edited on Thu Sep-22-05 04:17 PM by lebkuchen
in an area where there is apparently a dearth of stations, it would have helped in a big way to prevent chaos from breaking out.

5. This is their new looting story
The traffic jams are potentially deadly if it's not cleared when the storm comes. CNN and the rest of the "media" will be going to every gas station in TX looking for a scuffle now.

:(

We can't take another one of these disasters, and it's very possible there will be another, we are still in hurricane season.

All those refineries are going to be shut down or washed away for who knows how long.

The Gods have abandoned Rome.

17. I went out an about today. I'm not in the storm surge area, but the gas
station down the street from me was jammed packed. I drove past that one a little further down the road where there are two stations on each corner of the street and one gas station was almost completely empty while the other looked like a normal day. Yet 3 blocks away everyone was trying to get into one station. Didn't make a lot of sense to me.

22. Bizarre. Station REFUSING cash, only accepting credit cards.
The station owner should be prosecuted and jailed for refusing "Legal Tender For All Debts Public and Private" .... and discriminating against people (like the POOR) who don't have credit cards!

they will not be accepted. As for why cash is being refused under any circumstances, I'm as baffled as anyone else.

In Europe, it's the cheapest gas, it's commonplace, and it's standard fuel fare.

41. Remember the car chases that were big news a few years ago??
This type of stuff has replaced that.

Watching people from a police helicopter kicking the crap out of each other for a gallon of gas is the new breaking news flash from the MSM.

How quickly our society crumbles when the have mores piss off the have nots.

There is a seething reptilian anger lurking below the surface of this country. Give it time folks, it's not a matter of if but when it will explode.

colossal racist failures*.
