Are people in a shitty mood where you are today, too??
Edited on Thu Sep-22-05 05:11 PM by Chimpys_Last_Stand
I live in southern Ontario....in the Niagara Region, if you're familiar....and we're feeling the gas pinch up here too. People lining up at stations in my small town, where they're still keeping the price down (that is @$1.05 a litre...I don't know what the litre to gallon conversion is, but it's roughly comparable I think). Other stations are crouching 2 bucks a litre (and remember, a litre is a much smaller unit of measurement than a gallon)...with reports outside the region of gas as high as 2.80 a litre.

Anyway...where I gassed up today, many people had gas cans with them as well...which is just a little stupid I think...we're not in a hurricane's path for instance(!!) Making the lines even longer. And people were just a little edgy, a little testy. The feds (U.S. and Canada) have GOT to step in here....this is gouging, pure and simple.
Is it not illegal (I would hope in both countries) to jack up prices in anticipation of a squeeze on supply??

I dunno man. Brutal.

on edit, in response to all: Hey....I don't know...maybe hoarding gas is a good idea....maybe...I'm just reporting what I observed today and the mood I felt in the air.

1. There's some shitty attitudes on DU today, that's for sure. I think
people everywhere are a bit on edge right now. Superstorm creeping toward us carrying certain destruction. Asshole * ranting about 9/11 and terraists, thousands of vehicles stranded on the TX highway while death approaches, fights breaking out at gas stations, price gouging everywhere, troops massing in DC in front of this weekends peace rally....not a good day.

3. Locking Gas Caps...
... are on back order here in W Texas. Also there are no generators available at the home centers (lowes, home depot, etc) My husband called a local store and they had three. When he got there 30 minutes later they were gone. We are 400 miles from the coast. We aren't in any danger, but we lose power easily if we get the slightest flooding. I think people realize whatever happens from now on, we are on our own. Things are getting uglier everyday.

5. More crappy moods at work here today....
exacerbated by an extremely nasty thunderstorm that's very slow in passing through southeast Michigan. I can't wait to get home to a glass of wine.

6. Bad news Dude...
...a liter of gasoline is equal to a quart here. That means you are paying about $4.20 a gallon or thereabouts.

We Americans are whining at $3.00 gas.

Why are you surprized at the Oil Companies goughing you??
After all we have an oilman as president...got to keep his friends happy!!!

P.S. Yes, people are testy today...go figure.

8. I wouldn't laugh at people filling up gas cans
Forty percent of the US refining capacity lies in the path of Hurricane Rita, and if the worst case scenario comes into being, well all of us, both north and south of the Canadian border will be looking at long lines and rationing.

I'm going to fill up some cans myself tonight. Even if Rita doesn't destroy all of that refining capacity, there are going to be some short term price spikes next week, and I'd rather not have to suffer from them.

9. Talk about a shitty mood....I was in Katrina's path and now I'm in Rita's
Far enough away to avoid major damage, but tornados, torrential rains and flooding remain potential problems over the next few days.
