A few words on the Bush "drinking again" story

There are many of us here on DU (myself included) who have had alcoholic parents, spouses, etc. and who for the longest time have been arguing that Bush looks and acts like those alcoholics we grew up with. I can not say with absolute certainty that he exhibits symptoms of said disease, because am neither a) a doctor or b) able to diagnose via photos on the internet. I can say, however, that when I see or listen to him I am prone to agree with anyone who says he is still drinking.

Also, let us take into account the fact the Bush has NEVER been able to successfully complete any task put before him, unless it includes either running away or placing blame, both of which he excels at. Does anyone here truly believe that Bush took "the cure" and is now suddenly alcohol-free? Of course not, but that line of bull plays in Peoria, and so it becomes part of the Bush (invented) persona.

By flailing at WHERE these latest drinking rumors come front, we are missing the point. He has failed, once again, and this time the ones he has let down are not going to go gentle into the good night. He has failed, once again, to cross the Daddy threshold, and this was not a high bar to begin with. He must now once again retreat into the only things he knows how to do - pretend, and drink. Where before there were those willing to hide his failings under a bullhorn and a flag, they are not so willing to do so now.

SInce I am of the firm conviction that Bush has never stopped drinking (or "medicating" himself in some fashion) I believe the Enquirer -100%.

My only quibble is with the term "again."

Although I do not have alcoholic parents, I've had alcoholic friends. I am seeing the same thing as you are apparently seeing.

This is very important information to have about a person who has a Marine follow him around closely 24 hours a day with nuclear launch codes. The same was said by people in the summer of 1974 when Nixon was hitting the scotch pretty heavily. It's a scary situation. What's makes Shrubby the more scarier situation is the fact that the man is insane on top of it.

I do not think insane, drunk, and nuclear launch codes mix very well together.

4. The 'MO' for a lot of underachievers

He has been coddled and protected by his parents and then Rove. He is a flunkie and a loser who pretends he is a winner but all on false pretenses. You cannot lie and swagger yourself to greatness.
I'm more than ready for him and his cronies jet back to their home planet so we can begin to repair the damage they have caused us, and the world.

5. * drink is only one symptom of alcoholism

he may or may not be drinking but he still has all the symptoms
without something to medicate his insanity (doing the same thing over and over and expecting diffent results) and his unwillingness to become sane since he is in denial - we have a man without a fix - just like 'crack' addicts running around without a fix - this is a very sick admin and they all have the 'ism' which is evident in their lives, their families and their friends. * mother is a cruel and mean person - and the stepford wife fits right in with the insanity - how many said she killed a boyfriend in traffic accident - but the lost is not dealt with - the rw seem to all be enablers and very 'ism' so you have some very sick people running and driving this country to death

6. I (witness to *generations* of alcoholism) agree...based on the

suffering and injury I went through as a result of alcoholism, this latest of the Dickwad's crimes is like so OVER THE TOP....bad enough to suffer abuse as a result of alcoholism in the family, but watching this filthy drunk destroy the country and watching innocent people die as a result is just TOO Much. Over. the. Top.

There must be some legal remedy here. Some legal way of getting blood tests or whatever it would take to PROVE what we all KNOW and get this s.o.b. out of the WH.

Aren't there any fed regulations about substance abuse on the job?

Even if we could get a national AA sort of intervention going here...

I mean, we as american citizens DO have the right to demand that the fucking president NOT be a drunk.

12. "Exempt" is the government's favorite word...

...they quietly exempt themselves from more things than not, and when they can't exempt themselves wholesale, they find "Exceptions" and then exempt on that basis. It's been going on damn-near forever.

President Clinton actually cut into some of this back in the mid-90s, but I'm sure it's been quietly returning under Bush.

If you find a specific law anywhere you'd like to see applied, read it carefully for the "exempts" scattered throughout.

I know quite a few people that booze has screwed up their lives and most don't even know it. I don't drink anymore and it ain't easy sometimes..

11. He has been surrounded by enablers and handlers all along

He is surrounded by Laura and Condi and assistants in the White House who manage his schedule and slavishly take care of his every need plus his handlers like Rove and Karen Hughes who prop up his image and and concoct distractions to divert attention from any criticism of his shortcomings.

But beyond his inner circle of loyal enablers, his right wing supporters and many in the media constantly cover up and make excuses for his inadequacies and mistakes. Just like Reagan's declining mental state was covered up and compensated for by enablers, I expect Bush's problems will also be deflected without any serious fallout.
