5. ANUS Was His ANUS Self
Edited on Tue Oct-07-03 09:19 AM by UTUSN
There was no supposed submerged "humor", the you-know-I'm-playing-with-you, as there usually is. ANUS promo-ed it throughout the circus with, "He's been on EVERY show, will be on Sesame Street which films nearby," and introduced him this same way. WILSON was his usual intelligent and unflappable self and replied, "Thanks for the warm welcome." ANUS spent about half of the interview harping on the point, "Why would the Niger uranium people not wonder why you were asking them questions?" He kept WILSON to excruciating detail, where was he ambassador to and who appointed him (the implication he's a Dem operative)------answer, George the First, which took the wind out of ANUS's sail. WILSON said there were *THREE* different reports, the official one from the assigned ambassador, which got the Niger government's official denial, WILSON's, and a general's. Said that his process was 3-pronged, to get the bureaucratic steps involved (who would have to know about the uranium sales), the chain of custody/possession every step of the way, and something else, the production steps? He emphasized that the Shrub mal-administration had PLENTY of information but ignored it and yet the Italian tabloid crap that was behind the 16 words is what got into the SotU speech. ANUS kept interrupting with the same idiot question about why-would-they-talk-to-you, then went to the question, "Did you and your wife think she was in danger (with the name disclosure)." WILSON was evasive, ANUS pinned him down. WILSON said that not at first, but did when other CIA people started calling and telling them. ANUS went back to the implication WILSON is a KERRY operative, "Do you WORK FOR?" WILSON was evasive again, saying he "answers questions" from all different campaigns. ANUS asked, are you ON THE PAYROLL. Finally, answer: No. Where is PLAINE now? Getting the kids ready for school. ANUS aked to talk to her. No, that she would rather have her arm cut off than talk to reporters. ANUS said he's not a reporter.

3. Informative and detailed . . .
Edited on Tue Oct-07-03 08:45 AM by TacticalPeak
This was a long segment, with Imus basically pushing the current RW talking points, even quoting freeperish comments from the AOL chat drivel from his show, like 'Wilson's been on everything, every show, what next: disney, home shopping, etc?', which is about making Wilson the story. Imus mentioned that he read the Face the Nation and Meet the Press transcripts from Sunday to prepare, try to understand whatssup with it all.

A long stretch (after 'why you?' and 'how were you picked?') was about 'what/how did you do' to check out the Iraq/uranium claim. This is about the RW smoke over 'sipping tea', getting a 'not us' response, being the extent of Wilson's contribution. The Amb did a very good job of straightening out that notion, I think he finally got the I-man to understand that his mission and performance were legit (that's just my guess: its hard to tell since Imus is basically sort of nihilist/goofball most of the time).

Imus also pushed on Wilson's support of Kerry, Wilson says he answers foreign policy questions from Kerry camp, and from other candidates, does not work for Kerry, ok, Imus moves on.

Another long piece about covertness and personal danger after outing, again from the RW 'just an analyst' crap, and Wilson was good: not much initial, immediate concern personally vs her network/natsec concerns, but lately have reviewed situation based on conversations, etc. Plame was getting the kids ready for school, Imus tried to get her on the phone (haha) but no go ('rather cut her right arm off than talk to press').

Imus seemed to come into it straight out of the repuke talking points and Wilson handled it very well. I wish Imus had also read the transcript of last Friday's Nightline with the five ex-CIA types, all Republicans, all voted for aWol, all shredding the maladmin. Anyone shilling over 'just analyst' vs '007 spy' reveals their basic ignorance in these matters and/or blind adherence to Rove's navigation charts. There is an article at ABC news site that is corrective of such misconceptions, but the Nightline is much better. If Imus gets a little more educated on this, he would probably change his tune. Maybe they should book ex-Agency Larry Johnson, since that would clear up some of the bs pronto.

6. I'd be public, too-to try to save my life-if I'd been "outed" like that!
I think it is safer to stay out of the shadows when your cover has been blown, don't you think?

7. They are spinning Wilson's support for Kerry to cover up for the WH..
Wilson said he's on Kerry's foreign policy team last week, but, I'm glad he's not on the payroll. If he was on the payroll they would spin that he's being paid to speak against Bush.

8. Wilson's defense of aWol disturbs me...
This is the second or third time I have heard him say he does not think chimpy was involved in the leaking of his wife's name. Now the only reason I can come up with for this is perhaps he is hoping people zero in on cheney? Cheney is who I happen to think is responsible and it certainly would be better to see him out of office than the puppetboy.

9. I am wondering if it because....
of the relationship he had with W's dad, it sounded like there was mutual respect there from what I have read. I think Wilson is wise not to be pointing fingers at GW, let others do that and then he can stay "above the fray".

11. is it possible that he truly does not believe the Chimperor knew?
and that he may have grounds for this belief? (i.e., that there is no political and personal angle to it)

12. I believe Bush knew it was going to be done...
but as regards what Ambassador Wilson believes, we can only take him at his word.

13. Cheney is the one with the appendage already in the wringer.
Edited on Tue Oct-07-03 10:56 AM by TacticalPeak
I notice Wilson on multiple occasions say he would not be contributing to 'Bush/Cheney' again, would not support 'Bush/Cheney' in '04, etc., sounding both like one who writes out checks to presidential campaigns (prez/vp) and like an accurate reporter giving us the full picture of who is on this ticket. Poor Dick.

But I know of no smoking gun yet on aWol, and hope it turns out to be a mushroom cloud. In the meantime, the diplomatic, gentlemanly, left-handed dismissal of Shrub as incapable of being in the know (!?), is the wise course until things develop further. (I think I noticed that Wilson actually is either left-handed or ambi from footage showing him signing something(?).)
