This was a long segment, with Imus basically pushing the current RW talking points, even quoting freeperish comments from the AOL chat drivel from his show, like 'Wilson's been on everything, every show, what next: disney, home shopping, etc?', which is about making Wilson the story. Imus mentioned that he read the Face the Nation and Meet the Press transcripts from Sunday to prepare, try to understand whatssup with it all.
A long stretch (after 'why you?' and 'how were you picked?') was about 'what/how did you do' to check out the Iraq/uranium claim. This is about the RW smoke over 'sipping tea', getting a 'not us' response, being the extent of Wilson's contribution. The Amb did a very good job of straightening out that notion, I think he finally got the I-man to understand that his mission and performance were legit (that's just my guess: its hard to tell since Imus is basically sort of nihilist/goofball most of the time).
Imus also pushed on Wilson's support of Kerry, Wilson says he answers foreign policy questions from Kerry camp, and from other candidates, does not work for Kerry, ok, Imus moves on.
Another long piece about covertness and personal danger after outing, again from the RW 'just an analyst' crap, and Wilson was good: not much initial, immediate concern personally vs her network/natsec concerns, but lately have reviewed situation based on conversations, etc. Plame was getting the kids ready for school, Imus tried to get her on the phone (haha) but no go ('rather cut her right arm off than talk to press').
Imus seemed to come into it straight out of the repuke talking points and Wilson handled it very well. I wish Imus had also read the transcript of last Friday's Nightline with the five ex-CIA types, all Republicans, all voted for aWol, all shredding the maladmin. Anyone shilling over 'just analyst' vs '007 spy' reveals their basic ignorance in these matters and/or blind adherence to Rove's navigation charts. There is an article at ABC news site that is corrective of such misconceptions, but the Nightline is much better. If Imus gets a little more educated on this, he would probably change his tune. Maybe they should book ex-Agency Larry Johnson, since that would clear up some of the bs pronto.
