Amazing NASA Satellite pictures of Hurricane Rita (MODIS)

These are considered "Medium Resolution" pictures, but compared to the average Weather satellite, these are very detailed.

In the shot from today, you can see Houston on the Left side of the frame and can really see the size comparison. If you look into the "eye" I think that is even turbulent, white capped water, I believe Rita was still a Cat. 5 at this point.

1. I'd like to see comparable photos of Katrina, for comparison

I tried searching the archives but no can do.

I didn't bookmark any, either.

I'd like to see the same photo for Katrina when it was in approximately the same spot.

Anyone have that? It'd be cool.

I was trying to find some, and just couldn't find comparable images -- same scale, taken in the same area of the gulf. I know they're out there, when I have time I'll track some more down, just to see.

I'm trying to see how this one looks compared to Katrina at various stages.

12. Yes. It's about 550 miles from New Orleans to the Yucatan peninsula.

Note that the storm spans the entire Gulf.

You cannot miss her eye being reforming, which mean, she can go to CAT5 just before landfall.
