Al Gore to challenge Hillary?
I know to be skeptical of the source, but this showed up in my "spam" file, and I had to read it. I hope it's true. I love Al, and I have been less than thrilled with Hillary's performance of late.

http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2005/9/22/125909.shtml?et=y

snip-
Al Gore is poised to make a comeback and could pose a serious challenge to Hillary Clinton in the 2008 Democratic presidential race.

That’s the surprising news from "Inside Washington” columnist Deborah Orin of the New York Post, who writes that the former vice president "is suddenly re-emerging as a vocal and visible Bush-basher.”

A Democratic insider told Orin that Gore – who is slated to star at a Democratic National Committee fund-raiser next week – is "keeping a very strong public profile.

"He was the first major Democrat to oppose the Iraq war. He’s keeping in touch around the country and doing a lot of speeches. You don’t do all that if your goal is to play celebrity golf.” Why should Hillary worry?

From what I've seen, he's basically described everything that is going on right now to a "T."

Gore is a class act. The more I see of him, the more I am convinced he should be our leader. If Bush had not stolen the 2000 election, our country would be a completely different place.

of bush and his insane ways which has run this country into the ground. If you had an ounce of sense, you'd be afraid, too.

Look at the Katrina aftermath. He didn't do shit for those people. What makes you think he even cares about you?? What makes you think he would even cross the street to help you?

He cares more about his oil buddies and hiding in the WH. Bush is a murdering pig and you are too blind to even see it.

on edit: the truth sucks, doesn't it?

He beat your boy`s ass to New Orleans and managed to get 140 people out on a plane he chartered with his own money.

Didn`t see Shrub doing that.

If he was able to do that with his own money, imagine what he could have done with the resources available to him as President.

I'm not much of a Hillary fan. I might be hard pressed to vote Gore if Kerry runs again though. I like Kerry's anti war past, especially since he was IN the war. It gives him such a strength of conviction. Although Gore is definitely on point lately. Plus Gore backed Dean.

It would be nice! I think if it's a match between Hillary and Al then Al would win hands down! Nobody wants the Iraq war anymore and as the article mentions Al has been outspoken since 2003. I remember seeing a speech of his on CSPAN once about Iraq. I think by 2008 people will be wanting a progressive like Al. Kerry was/is pretty progressive but I stil think our country needs Al even if we don't deserve him.

Nobody wants the Iraq war anymore and as the article mentions Al has been outspoken since 2003.

Since 2002. He gave the first speech on Bush's Iraq war push BEFORE the resolution was passed in Oct, 2002. Stupid Dems on the Hill did not listened to him. Toricelli even said what Gore said was "irrelevant." To hell with him. Ask him now that over 1900 US troops are dead.

55. He was our best chance in 2000, 2004 and remains our best for 2008
Gore is in a class by himself. He was Clinton's co-president for eight years. Clinton offered him a co-presidency over eight spheres of influence if he would only run with him in 1992. This is what made Gore change his mind about sitting out the 1992 election, following the injury of his son in an auto accident. Once Gore became motivated by Clinton's offer to have control over these eight areas, written about by David Mariness, the ticket was set. Many Dems thought the order on the ticket should have been reversed, including this one. Gore is not simply a politician; he's a real statesman.

Many people said during the impeachment crisis, Clinton was too depressed to run the Country and Gore ran the whole parade. I believe he has a lot of political acumen, despite the constant criticism the press laid on him, as well as other Dems, during the 2000 campaign. He had a lot on his plate. Despite starting the campaign 15 points behind Bush*, he pulled a win. In 2004, the DLC edged him out, attempting to grease the Hillary wheels for 2008. Obviously had Gore run and won, Hillary could not have challenged an incumbent Gore for 2008. Kerry's loss worked in her favor. And Bill's schmoozing of the Bush cabal has only been in furtherance of Hillary's prospects.

Gore's speeches in the last few years have inspired me to persevere during these last five Bush* years. I never thought I could make it through them. Just the rumor he might run gives me hope this Country might once again be what it was before the theft of election 2000. And who could ask for a better first lady than Tipper. Shunning all publicity, Tipper Gore went into the parks of DC, made friends with the homeless, and bought them bus tickets home to their families. She like her mate is a wonderful, good Samaritan. The Gores are the kind of people we need as examples to our young people, and because of their reputations, we might stand a chance of getting our good name back in the eyes of the world under a Gore presidency.

I think there are several good selections for vice president. Dean, Clark, Feingold. The Democratic primary would be interesting if both Hillary and Gore emerged, but Hillary only polled about 19 percent among Dems pre-2004 when Gore was polling about 60 percent among the Dems. The very interesting thing is that they have been at political odds with each other since 1992, despite Hillary's public statements to the contrary, but my gut tells me Gore would pulverize her presidential intentions (if he decides to run) from the start.

I think some Republicans privately admire Gore because of his reputation for personal integrity and would much prefer him over Hillary. I look over the field of Republicans to imagine who might be a real challenge to a Gore run, and the ONLY Republican I can see who might give Gore a run for his money would be McCain. I have a feeling McCain might not get the nod from his party though.

It's going to be interesting ....
