Why to deal with Porn policy now? Because
there isn't much (if anything) else left to bring the RWers together...desperate, desperate. Just like the quick efforts they tried to put to work on the Chief Justice nomination (distraction options are very scarce lately.

What do you think?

7. Why do you think there are payoffs to be had there?
I know that industry rather well, and I don't think that there is likely to be anything like a payoff forthcoming.

13. There is a bill in congress now
to ad seizure rules to violations of 18 USC 2257 (age verification rules). So, even if all your performers are over 18, they will be able to seize all your assets for some small technical violation of the rules.

Sorry I don't have a link today.

15. There is a bill in congress now
to ad seizure provisions to 18 USC 2257 (the age verification rules).

So, even if all of your performers are over 18, you can have your whole company seized by the government for some technical violation of the rules.

Sorry, no link today.

2. And as soon as they all realize...
How many leather sites Ashcroft belongs to (and Coulter and all the other deeply repressed far-right wing hypocrites), they'll realize "oh my heavens, we'll lose our goodies, too" and give up that also.

4. Sure, Porn Is A RW Hot-Button Issue
Edited on Thu Sep-22-05 10:14 PM by Tace
People frightened by sex. Weird.

On Edit: Also, corporations make HUGE money off porn. These corporations are run by Republicans. It's sort of like the drug war. They'll make more money off drugs if they're illegal.

I guarantee they'll be focusing on free porn sites.

16. This is a mischaracterization
corporations make HUGE money off porn. These corporations are run by Republicans

No, republican run cable and satilite companies derive a small portion of their profits from porn.

By and far, the people actually in the industry producing and distribution porn are progressive.

Mary Carey was a publicity stunt and trying to make the 'pubs look like fools.

18. The only problem with Mary's stunt...
the Rethuglicans were too fucking stupid to realize they had been played!

And I know friends of hers, and Mongo is right, guys; This was a FUCK YOU from Mary and he production company, "Kick ass pictures" to the GOP.

5. Nothing scares a fundie like sex
not war, not nuclear annihilation, not commies under the bed. It is the pure and primal fear in the fundie mindset. The demons that haunt them most arise from their fear of and shame at their own humanness, and are instilled by religion. Sad, sick people they are.

9. It's not the sex that scares them ...
... it's the idea that someone somewhere might be having fun, and that 'someone' isn't them.

And beating up on adult video producers looks easy to them.

19. And the irony is what?
I wish I had this idea first. No other way to get those images out of Iraq, and you know you can bribe troops with porn. We need those images out in the world, don't we? And trading images of peace for images of war seems to me to be ideal.
