I pride myself on noticing the strange and paranormal but this
Edited on Thu Sep-22-05 11:38 PM by MichaelHarris
has me befuddled. The media is interviewing mayors, and governors left and right for hurricane Rita and the only two leaders they identify with the little (D) or (R) next to their name is the governor of Louisiana and the mayor of New Orleans.

I've noticed it all day on all 3 major news channels and most local channels. I'm sure the media wouldn't follow a GOP memo to name them by party affiliation to set up the future slandering of these two officials. By the way I have a statue right outside of New York for sale.

1. nah--and it isn't that when they are reporting on a sex scandal that , for
some strange reason, they sort of "omit" the "r" after the perp's name, either.

7. Give us your
tired and huddled masses, as long as they will work for minimum wage. Oh yeah and will become graduate school students who pay 1000 times the tuition and will teach classes for 20,000 dollars a year.

4. Yeah and then Scarborough condemns the "partisanship"
while talking to Vitter tonight. He said "c'mon, your mayor and your governor are a joke!" and then turns around and starts talking about the evacuation traffic jams outside of Houston--SO, JOE, how is your comment NOT partisan when you won't condemn the Texas Governor and the mayor of Houston for their shitty evac policy???

6. the city commission race in our town is non-partisan
In otherwords you don't run as a party member you just run as a member of the community-at-large. I don't know if this is true elsewhere.

12. while you scan the
news channels watch and see how many times they use the (D) behind the New Orleans mayor but none of the other mayors. I noticed it because they interviewed the mayor and family friend of my home town, Texas City and he's a big time Dem and they didn't use the D on him.

My guess is if he messes up they'll start tagging him with the so very evil (D

I've never seen a local politician being interviewed by party affiliation.

11. A town I lived in for several years had a non-partisan Mayor.
Same with the city council. They were considered non-partisan public servants.

13. Its because those two have reached celebrity status
Nagin is not just any mayor, he's THE mayor for the next 15 minutes, and for a short time a player in the public arena. They would be talking about his favorite recipes by now if Rita hadn't shown up.

It's not a set-up for slandering, they want a drag down fight between this guy and someone from the right. He has attitude and justifiable anger, a Guiliani for the left, and his sound bites make people pay attention.
