6. Hope it's nothing because our disaster kit isn't together yet.
Apparently, after everyone took a good look at FEMA, the whole country is laying in disaster stock. MREs are hard to find by the case!

Is there a movie opening? :)

Rocket carrying military satellite launches, displays colors

VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE – A rocket carrying a military research satellite blasted off Thursday, dazzling spectators from California to Arizona with a rainbow of colors as it streaked across the sky at dusk.

The Minotaur rocket carrying a DARPA payload launched into orbit at 7:24 p.m. from Vandenberg Air Force Base, said Maj. Todd Fleming.

DARPA is the research and development arm of the Pentagon. The 920-pound "Streak" payload will stay in orbit for a year, gathering information about the Earth's environment in low orbit. The mission's cost is classified.

The payload was so named because of the streaking movement it makes across the sky.

After blastoff, the rocket – made from decommissioned first and second stages of a Minuteman 2 missile – tracked over the Pacific.

17. No big deal.
I saw it. It was a Vandenburg Air Force Base launch. It happens all the time here. Usually see these launches when they happen in early evening around dusk. The contrail is high in the atmosphere and is still lit brightly by the sun while at ground level the sun has set behind the mountains. The contrail is a spiral shape due to high level wind currents and is very colorful. The high altitude trail is white and the lower altitude carries the color of a sunset.

Nini grew up here and says they were a common sight in her childhood. She said it was from Vandenburg. We saw it when we went out for dinner. Quite pretty in its own way. :-)
