Poll question: Tanking up ahead of Rita?
Gas prices soared after Katrina, and there have been many stories about gas going up as high as $5.00/gal

With Rita taking aim at the Gulf, oil rigs and refineries are in danger. I'm sure most of us are anticipating another spike in gas prices

are you tanking up ahead of the storm?

and what is reg. gas going for in your area?

3. how'd you fair with the tornado warnings Wed. night?
My family lives in/around Minneapolis. Parents are in Plymouth (they had some planters knocked off the patio railing from winds), sister is in Crystal (sirens went off in her area, but no touchdown tornado there), brother lives in Minneapolis proper, and aunt/uncle are in Minnetonka

5. I am in Bloomington
We had like two raindrops, a couple of thunderclaps and some light winds...

All of the major nasty stuff hit the north outer ring suburbs...

I do not think anyone lost life in this storm. Most of the north suburban schools were closed yesterday. Many were still without power last night.

7. $2.85 - $2.99 right now
It had only just climbed back down from a a high of $3.11 post-Katrina.

It's anyone's guess what it'll be next weekend after the damage of Rita is known.

8. $2.53 Thursday evening, Local TV saying $5.00 after storm
Then they have the nerve to advise people to not top off so as to conserve fuel.
What so they can charge 2X the price tomorrow?

11. No.
I Filled up because I needed to last weekend. The time before I filled up was before the price went up before Katrina, Aug. 23rd I think. No SUV here.

13. What is the point and who cares? I have a 10 gallon tank in my little
Honda Civic. When my time is up, it is up. I'm driving all over Dallas and have no choice. When it hits $5, oh well.

I'm more worried about the lack of gas rather than the price of gas.

What I witnessed tonight in Dallas was very disconcerting. I need to go to a gun show.

16. Yeah, I did.
$2.74 right now, and Indiana gas retailers have a unique law that lets them gouge us with immpunity.
It's NOT gouging unless the Governor says it is.

Gee, how much did the retailers donate for his election?

17. A full tank & 15 gal in cans with gas stabilizer added.
You can't store modern gas for more than a month or 2 before it starts to deteriorate and precipitate a varnishy sludge that plugs up your carb, but you can store it safely for up to a year if you add gas stabilizer (widely available in hardware stores, etc.).

23. Actually, there's no need to stabilize modern gas.
...unless you're planning to keep it lying around for more than a year:

"How long can I store gasoline without it going bad? Gasoline stored in a tightly closed container in a cool place will stay good for at least one year. It is better if the container or gas tank is almost (95%) full. If the container or gas tank will be in the sun or will be heated above 27ºC much of the time, add an aftermarket fuel stabilizer to the gasoline when you first buy it. Gasoline-oil blends for two-stroke cycle engines stored under the proper conditions will keep as well as gasoline itself."

My Porsche sits in the garage from November to May. I don't use a stabilizer. After 6-7 months, I've noticed no difference in the gas.

18. Damn. I thought this poll was going to be about whether or not
the Chimp was getting all tanked up in order to deal with Rita. Really, I did.

But in answer to the poll, no, I didn't buy any gas yesterday. My tank was over 3/4 full so that will hold me for awhile. Will I get tanked up this weekend? Probably. Will I buy any gas. Probably not. ;)

19. I topped off after work yesterday
...already had about 3/4 of a tank. I also filled our gas container for the mower, just 2 gallons. It was $2.48 after jumping ten cents in two days. I didn't check on my way in to work this morning, not sure if we've seen any change yet here in Kansas.

20. I filled up yesterday but my gauge told me I'd better
Edited on Fri Sep-23-05 08:53 AM by tyedyeto
The 'low gas' light was on. Lines at the pumps here in southern AZ were longer than 'normal' but not too bad. I paid $2.929. The price here hasn't fallen to pre-Katrina levels but are down from a high of $3.099.

21. Are you kidding me? Did it the day before yesterday.
Developing strategies to make it last for 3 weeks, hopefully more and thinking about looking into a conversion kit for veggie oil.
