Fascist Friday is in full swing!!
Edited on Fri Sep-23-05 08:35 AM by FLDem5
Idiot on C-Span is saying that being Jewish is now thought of as being "automatically a neo-con."

WTF??!

Is that their new talking point? LOL!!!

(on edit - I actually misspelled fascist. How embarrassing!)

3. Boy, did I miss that one.
I know a reasonable number of Jews, and I'd say more of them fall on the liberal part of the spectrum than otherwise.

Even the ones I know who fully support Israel's policies are likely to be liberal in most other areas.

5. I was just laughing about that!
Wait until I call my Jewish friends and associates and inform them that they are now Neo-cons. I would only dare do so via phone or letter, because they are going to be pretty upset by their new affiliation. And you know how those Neo-cons are when they get mad...

7. They've been doing that for a while: they deflect criticism of any
neocon by accusing the critic of being anti-semitic.

it doesn't address the criticism and forces the critic to be totally sidetracked by addressing a false and disgusting accusation that can't be ignored.

just chickenshit debate tactics, that's all. The best defense is to do what I've just done: identify the tactic for what it is and repeat the criticism.

11. Agreed, the neocon = Jew bit's been around the block awhile.
As with any talking point, there's a bit of truth to it. Frankly I don't doubt that there's some anti-semitism driving some of the anti-war movement. It's not something I want to ever see or tolerate, myself, but that hardly explains away PNAC and the insane philosophy that Pax Americana will spread "freeance and peeance" around the globe through military clusterfucks.

14. Where is the antisemitism in the antiwar movement?
Criticism of Israel, and more specifically criticism of Israeli right wing and the Likud Party in particular (and neocon close ties to same) does not equate to antisemitism.

21. Absolutely...it is to crystal clear. If people can't make that
distinction I feel sorry for their lack of cognitive and logical thinking - or I need to be educated in very precise terms how it is anti-semetic to criticize Israel under Sharon.

Sharon and his Likud Party do not represent all Jews. Is being critical of the Rev Moon being anti-North Korean?

I will react when anyone claims that being critical and angry at Israel under Sharon is anti-semetic.

I think the entire world is critical of the U.S. today - but I don't think they are generally critical of the citizens - their criticism is at the policies of a few and our ongoing pomposity and horrible tendency to dictate and manipulate other countries for gain - by a few.

26. It's only a teensy part
shadowy, posting anonymously in some newsgroups I lurk in.

I'm not saying it's anything the antiwar movement needs to consciously purge itself of--it really can't, can it? Just saying there are those who loathe the war because they think it's (merely) beneficial to Jews.

A stupid view, but it's out there.

13. Talking point: "'Neocon' is leftist code-word for 'Jewish conservative'"
Ever since the neocons themselves started drawing fire for their rank incompetence, they've been pushing this meme in order to paint their critics as anti-semites. I've heard a couple of RW talking heads parrot the line. It seems one can't utter the word "neocon" on Fox without that being rattled off.

It's ridiculous, but the Faux-informed like that C-Span caller keep buying.

Being *Republican* automatically means you're a neocon. Being Jewish doesn't figure into it at all.
