I had some friends of my son tell me that protesters give "aid and comfort to the enemy" this week... so this is what I've decided to do about it. (I sure hope it gets printed.)

I’m not sure that this country can take any more of the fuzzy logic of the political right and their argument that anti-war protests give “aid and comfort” to the terrorists.
We’re told that we were attacked because the terrorist hate our freedoms. So what would give the terrorists more “aid and comfort” than knowing that we shut down those freedoms (including the right to publicly disagree with one’s government) in the name of “The War on Terror”? Surely the sweetest victory the terrorists could have would be to silence the 70% of this country that disagrees with the Bush Doctrine. Can you see them laughing at how they destroyed our freedom?
One of the organizations trying to shut down the protests is the American Legion. Is that not amazing? The American Legion thinks we should be fighting for freedom abroad, but they don’t care about what happens to freedom here. What’s even more amazing is that people who agree with this twisted position have the audacity to question the patriotism of the protestors.
If we really want to show Iraq’s new government the example of democracy that should be followed, then we need to not only respect the freedoms that democracy protects, but we need to exercise those freedoms as often as possible.
