4. I asked this question yesterday, and got a good answer.
Because no other President has claimed to be a reformed alcoholic.

Jesus was supposed to be good for that sort of thing.

33. My thoughts? A cleverly crafted Rovian deception.
Note: the following commentary is opinion only.

Bush, Rove, et al studied fundamentalist christianity because they knew it would take this particular group to get Bush elected into office. They found evangelical christians to be very gullible.

All you have to do is have a "salvation story" on how you came to know Jesus as Lord and Savior and then proceed to spout out a couple of words during the debates such as "Jesus is my favorite philosopher becuase he changed my life," and bam. You're in. And that's exactly what Bush did. It was Rove's plan exactly, I am sure of it.

A dramatic salvation story about how Bush was once a drinker and partier, then accepted Jesus and changed his life around is EXACTLY what would attract evangelicals and keep them hooked. Even to this day I am amazed at RW boards that revere the man, reminding followers every now and then about how Bush came to know Jesus. Apparently there is a whole detailed story about it, most likely concocted by Rove.

But it was a lie from the beginning. And I think more people, especially Christians, ought to wake up to this. No offense to anyone but I believe there is some merit to this.

36. Which is why the off-the wagon story is effective.
It shows Bush was obviously lying. Either that, or his faith is failing him in a time of crisis.

Either way, he's in deep shit if the drinking story is true, which I have little doubt of. I just doubt the blind quotes of Laura in the NE story, and the woe is me tone of it...but I'm sure he drinks.

37. Of course it was. They put him in drug rehab.
to dry him out, next Rove had him "born again" to get the religious nutjobs to vote for him. I wish I could remember where I read this, my memory fails me, as it was years ago that I came across the article detailing this info.

difference. He's still in denial. (And probably still drinking despite claiming otherwise.)

of course gerald ford was a stumbling, bumbling falling-down drunk...for which he bravely took responsibility...oh wait, no he didn't, it was his wife who went into rehab

no sitting president has ever acknowledged his problems w. alcohol or any other brain disease, it ain't gonna happen

physically graceful, but then neither am I, and I am not a drunk. His wife was the problem. Gerry was just a dolt.

32. because in the cotext of reckless decision making, poor judgement,
and an imparrant diconnect from reality it MUST be questioned. And NOT tolerate.

If things were going extremely well on all fronts AND he were drinking, that might be less of an issue (though in my opinion, it shouldn't be).

His power and responsibility require that he NOT have his judgement impaired by alcohol or any drug.

I would say the same thing about a Democrat, by the way. Blowjobs are one thing, but something which alters a person's bioschemistry is another when they have access to "the red button".

Mark Lombardi, focusing on different aspects of Bush family doings.

I've got some links here: http://blatanttruth.org/bushcrimefamily.php#bodies

Octafish publishes quite a bit here at DU on crimes of the Bush family.

Which anyone with just a little bit of sense knows makes a big difference. At least it does to me.
