The more commercial television news you watch, the more wrong you are likely to be about key elements of the Iraq War and its aftermath, according to a major new study released in Washington on Thursday.


And the more you watch the Rupert Murdoch-owned Fox News channel, in particular, the more likely it is that your perceptions about the war are wrong, adds the report by the University of Maryland's Program on International Policy Attitudes (PIPA).

Fox News/Opinion Dynamics has commissioned a survey to counter this one. As you might expect, the results of this poll paint quite a different picture of media consumers than the Ford Foundation's.

The Fox survey found that:

7. This Is So Obvious, Isn't It?

If you watch a network that underinforms or misinforms its viewers, you're going to be under- or misinformed.

This isn't the fault of the viewers directly. (Indirectly, yes. If they are that incurious that they want to be spoonfed, they sort of get what they deserve.)

It's the fault of cynical jerks like those that run Faux. They targeted the shallow thinkers, and then feed them the information they want them to believe, so they foster a whole segment of even less informed people.

I think that's practically the classical definition of a propagandist.
