must apologize to us. For acting sooooo superior and shaking their heads at us. This is all their fault and they have to acknowledge it if they want us to cooperate.
Then we'll sign it. Maybe.

we can manage to elect a Democratic administration that doesn't have it's head up the corporate butt of America's Oil Companies, and we have managed to purge the rest of the corporatist Senators and Congresspeople of the DLC persuasion (we might even control both houses and the WH by then!)

I'd say in the next 10 years oughtta do it.

We should be ashamed we are not on that treaty NOW.

7. I think a lot of people will take global warming more seriously now

even if these stronger hurricanes are not 100% due to global warming. It will be the job of people like us to get information on the Kyoto Protocol out there. Many people I know have never heard of it, and I've recently educated them, and they are pissed. If we spread the word then the people will MAKE it get signed and ratified.

9. My understanding of the treaty

It will restrict our output of pollutants(good) while allowing increased pollution (bad) by third world countries to "make up" for their desire to get up to our standard of living.Ted Kennedy voted against Koyto,which says something about the impact on our economy.
the treaty should reduce pollution worldwide,not just on our continent.

On June 25, 1997, before the Kyoto Protocol was to be negotiated, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed by a 95-0 vote the Byrd-Hagel Resolution (S. Res. 98), which stated the sense of the Senate was that the United States should not be a signatory to any protocol that did not include binding targets and timetables for developing as well as industrialized nations or "would result in serious harm to the economy of the United States".

On November 12, 1998, Vice President Al Gore symbolically signed the protocol. Fully aware of the Senate's view of the protocol, the Clinton Administration would never submit the protocol for ratification.

If the Senate voted 95-0 for never even bringing the Kyoto Treaty to a vote, there is no chance of it being passed. Ask yourself, is there even one Democrat who would vote for this?

In the next 50 years, the growth in fuel use will be overwhelmingly in India and China. In China there are four people for every person in the USA. Same for India. And each of those families want to have cars and other modern conveniences just like we do.

If those two engines of the world economy are exempt, then how can the treaty be any good?

I was going to point out that Kyoto is about as useful as a Freeper, but last time I did that I was called about every name in the DU book because I actually have read the treaty, thought the CONSEQUENCES though and have come to realize it's about as big as boondoggle as comes around

But, being in progressive mind lockstep no matter the results is really all that matters :sarcasm:
