100-mile traffic jam -- is that a record?

I just saw that in a headline as I walked past a newspaper vending machine, and I was thinking to myself... if I had 100 miles of gridlocked cars ahead of me, and a hurricane coming up behind, I'd go stark fucking insane. I will never complain about the Portland-area traffic again. *crosses fingers*

are they far enough inland to be relatively safe? If they don't get further along are they near enough so that the wind might start blowing these cars into a pile up? How long do they have before bad things might start happening? After the storm we had here the other night, I am terrified about this storm and the people having to deal with it.

7. not a record, not a surprise

happened in Corpus Christi in 1980, evacuating for hurricane Allen. Gridlock 150+ miles from Corpus to San Antonio. And there are no gas stations, there's nothin' out there, not even trees.
