I would like to start a David Gregory appreciation thread.
He's one of the good guys.

David Gregory
NBC News Chief White House Correspondent

David Gregory was named White House correspondent for NBC News in February 2001. He reports from the White House for NBC News broadcasts, including "Nightly News with Brian Williams," "Today" and MSNBC.

Gregory has covered George W. Bush since the historic campaign of 2000. With the President and Vice President, he has traveled the world, reporting from Asia, the Middle East, Africa, South America and Europe on the most important stories of this administration: the 9-11 attacks, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Gregory was also part of the NBC team covering the 9-11 attacks reporting from Florida where the President first learned of the catastrophe. He was the only television correspondent to accompany Mr. Bush to Ground Zero for a first hand look three days after the attacks.

7. Nope, this time Gregory fried DimSon himself
Watch video clip at crooksandliars.com

Note that a few hours after that clip took place, White House announced that DimSon would not stop off in Texas as planned on Friday because they didn't want him interfering.

Once again, media teaching White House disaster response basics.

Edited on Fri Sep-23-05 08:58 PM by Kazak
Just kidding. My wife thinks he looks kind of like a horse, and now I can never get the image out of my mind whenever I see him.

Honestly, I've never really been able to absolutely pin down, without a shadow of a doubt, whether he's an outstanding and solid journalist, or if he is one of their more high-profile and valuable colluders, but I do have the slightest sliver of doubt about him. I don't know if I'm the only one...

44. You're not the only one.
He may not have a clue about how he is being used, nor about what the truth really is, but that shouldn't stop him from raising more serious questions.

Example question for Scotty boy: "Do you know of a single law that has not been broken by this administration?"

I, personally, can't think of any.

17. I'll add my appreciation....
He seems more independent than the other reporters at NBC. Lately the press conferences have been entertaining because there is HOPE that the Chimp administration will be held accountable.

When they shuck and jive it is very apparent and comes across the TV screen. David Gregory has been one of the catalyst for the change in tone of these conferences.

I thank him and urge him to turn up the heat.

24. I think his questioning has been one of the reasons the polls started
going down to begin with. He has been hammering the Plame story and did in the beginning too, when it first happened. He has been hammering Scotty every chance he gets. The bolder he gets the more the others in that press pool seem to wake up.

The day he hammered Scotty about Rove and the entire press corp began chanting Karl Rove's name as Scotty excited the room, I knew the tide was turning and that David had something to do with it.

He doesn't back down from asking the hard questions when he gets a chance. He doesn't accept a fluff non-answer without pounding Scotty with a gut shot to follow his previous sock to the eye. He asks the questions that we all seem to want to know the answers to.

Today's question was not really a question. It was an indictment of the whole administration and his frustration with seeing blivet** hinder more than he helps. It was a thing of beauty and what I would have said to blivet**, given the chance.

Count me in the David :loveya: Gregory fan club.

21. Thanks David!! Here is yet another reason I love him:
"During his visit to FEMA emergency operations center here in Washington today, I asked the President what good he thinks he could do traveling to the hurricane zone later today in anticipation of Rita. He initially brushed off questions, but then spun around to say, "We will make sure that my entourage does not get in the way of people doing their job."

What a difference a botched hurricane makes!"

22. Don`t want to rain on your parade, but
the fact that we get all excited because a journalist occasionally does his/her job should be cause for alarm over the state of corporate media. If Gregory and the rest of them had done their jobs, George Bush may not have been able to lie his way into Iraq.

If you want to see real reporting, check out Jeremy Scahill on Democracy Now. His lengthy report tonight on the militarization of New Orleans was absolutely riveting. Scahill is as courageous as they come and I`ll bet he doesn`t spend his spare time chumming around cocktail parties inside the beltway.

33. Aw, please.
Sounds like Gregory is doing his job more often than "occasionally."

Let's be real here: the corporate media have the highest visibility and anyone who works for them who shows people the other side of things is to be commended. And how do YOU know whether or not David Gregory attends beltway cocktail parties in his spare time?

Don't tell me you're like one of those rock fans who only likes obscure bands no one has ever heard of and then accuses them of "selling out" when they show any sign of commercial success.

There's no sin in being HEARD.

47. I agree, and disagree...
I agree with you about Jeremy Scahill. He is outstanding, and I've really appreciated his reporting from NOLA. He is one of the top younger journalists we have, and he's an indie, too!
But I disagree about David Gregory. When he got assigned to the WH, it was right before 9/11 I think. Hey, that is a career move in the journalism industry. EVERY journalist (when 9/11 happend) got patriot-itis, unfortunately. There may have been some who escaped the flag-waving, but most didn't. I respect David Gregory because he's snapped out of it, and is trying to get to some truth. He's in an uphill battle, it's unpopular to be the troublemaker. We need to support him - and go after the the REAL shills - the ones who are STILL hiding and covering up.

34. I think it was the Rove/Plame thing.
Before that, he always asked good, hard questions but was more accepting of partisan nonanswers. But the big huge in your face lie the White House perpetuated about Rove's role in blowing Plame's cover seemed to piss him off big time and he's been riding herd on the White House ever since.

If/when the Rove thing blows up, believe that Gregory will be covering it hard and taking no prisoners.
