Were you here at DU when Katrina made landfall?
Edited on Sat Sep-24-05 12:04 AM by Blue_Roses
I was and amazing how the same reporters are out there. Anderson Cooper. Different feeling though 'cause the levees were involved.

Who was here that morning? I won't go to bed till this thing hits landfall.

1. Yep. I was here posting until it hit the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

One of my posts was that it was putting N.O. in great danger of flooding when it took that zig east.

6. no, but I did see the diagram of how a hurricane this size would
emerge Galveston. The seawall wouldn't have protected them.

13. thanks, PI... I was referring to NOLA & Katrina...
my health worker friends went through holy hell (Baptist and Charity Hospitals respectively). I have some sense of what they went through having found some reports during and after. One went with patients to HOuston after they were finally evacuated and the other temporarily went to Little ROck. I'd guess the Houston friend has had to go once again. I haven't heard yet, but expect to this time around. Neither have homes to return to...

10. yeah
I was here and I was glued to the TV somewhat, but mostly to the'puter and DU quite a bit after Katrina.I think most TV News these days is full of too much bullshit and scare tactics crap.. so I wasen't watching the news beyond weather channel.. until some DU'ers were saying how the reporters were getting some balls, for once... than I watched a bit more TV than usual. And I was on DU after that, for emotional support and to vent and to get more details.

12. yeah, I was
keeping vigil, exchanging posts with DU'ers in the area till they lost power. Worrying about them. It was a very sad day. All of us on DU that night knew something really bad was about to happen. Apparently, Homeland Security, FEMA, and idiot-in-chief were totally oblivious.

16. Isn't that the truth...
That makes me madder and madder.... Everyone here was monitoring intensely and knew what was happening in real time. Meantime, those "in charge" were oblivious, on vacation, drinking their margaritas, buying shoes, whatever...

14. Was here getting all my news from DU, and passing it on through emails.
Remember watching the video someone posted of Nagin reciting the preliminary list of damage done in NO. I wish I'd known what was ahead when I heard him mention the breach in the levee.

Didn't watch a lick of corporate news until you guys started making noise about the sudden upsurge in honesty.

15. I wasn't here, I was in it....
I've been watching streaming coverage of Rita from KPLC (http://www.kplctv.com/), a Lafayette station. I just find hurricanes fascinating although I don't ever want another repeat Katrina experience in my lifetime.
