Sitting here reading posts on DU trying to catch up on today's stories,
music playing softly, and CNN on even softer in the background.

I glance over at the TV and there is Anderson Cooper being blown all over the tv screen. A little to the right, alot to the left. Back to the right. There he goes. Trying to maintain his composure on national tv. And all the time he doesn't miss a word on the microphone.

It takes a special person to want to bring the news from the middle of a hurricane.

1. Is the cameraman outside too?
Somehow, I get the feeling that everybody else in the crew is in a van all nice and dry or something and they make him stand out there for full effect.

3. I've seen the camera operators
wipe off their lenses a lot. So, I guess they are outside too.

4. There's actually another anchor reporting from another town in TX as well
Winds are 120 mph! And they are out there.

Ratings?!
They better give Anderson a raise. He has been amazing.

2. Why do the "newspeople" have to stand outside?
It's so stooopid! Can't they just stand under a roof? The camera could show the hurricane in the background. But noooo. Every alphabet channel has a person in their rain gear standing out in the storm to mouth their stories. That's not "news." Bah!

6. Heh.
I'm with you. I think it's silly and pointlessly dangerous.

I love Anderson, but he's not the only or the first to do this. They all do this. It's become some macho tv thing.

7. I remember Geraldo covering a storm last year
and falling on his ass.

Now if that happened to Anderson, it would NOT be funny.

8. He failed the test! :)
The test of your tv hurricane gonads is a)how long you stay outside before the eye hits and b)never falling down, no matter how strong the wind gust.

:D

5. Anderson needs to get his ass inside! The wind is blowing so hard
in the microphone that we can hardly hear him. It looks painful too...the rain hitting his face. Why won't he put his hood up??? Geez. Could it be vanity? Does he not 'look good in a hood' or what? :eyes:

9. Hood probably can't stay on.
Wish he would go inside also. Don't think it's vanity. If he had vanity, I think he passed it long ago. Go inside, Anderson. We're getting worried about you!
